Mike DeWine 2pm Briefing Thursday Aug. 13

I think we will all be disappointed with "we are still taking a look at things, but if you continue to wear masks, we may see a season in the future" by 2:45pm

DOOM AND GLOOM TAKE:
Other than Husted tweeting a few personal "wants" the past three weeks.

Off the field, has our numbers got better that DeWine was detailed about from three weeks ago when he had his "Pre Dinner Wednesday Talk with the Governor"? No, they are almost the same if not a little worse.

More districts have shut down the past month (Columbus today)

All colleges are NOT playing this Fall

So I'm really trying to understand what has changed to make any push to move forward? I've read the same Beau Rugg interview, OHSAA has come up with a scheduling plan to make sure their pockets are lined, but as far as testing or protocol...we've had it for months.

Please attack me now, thanks boys.
Why would we attack you? You've been consistent in your negativity

I am SO CONFIDENT that he will not cancel the football season today that I am prepared to state that if Dictator Dewine DOES cancel football, I wont be back on yappi entertaining the masses with my wit, intelligence and general awesomeness until HS football returns.

Seems odd since just two days ago DeWine talked about the importance of having a high school football season.

Maybe you are correct, but nothing you have ever posted makes me think so.

Take it for what you want, but I have heard from a very reliable source that:

There is no announcement today, but it is actually coming tomorrow.

I don't know if that is a good thing or bad thing.

Anyone seeing a trend with the schools that are "suspending" their fall athletics???

Interesting that after a summer of talks/protests/riots of equality that the schools that are the most negatively effected by school closings and athletic suspensions seem to fit a certain demographic.

This seems to be the momentum of the moment.

Let's think about what happens if we do play football.
OSU was going to limit the capacity of the horseshoe to 20% to accommodate social distancing. Let's not assume that if given the okay to play, that as fans we won't be impacted. Schools will have to social distance. Masks will be mandated. Stadium capacities will be reduced. With that said, who gets to go to the games. Expect families first, season ticket holders next. How many people do you have at the point? That will reduce the fans that would generally go and buy tickets at the gate. How are schools and athletic personnel going to enforce social distancing? Fans will have to be spread out.

Think of a school like Massillon. Can Massillon execute social distancing. How about limiting the number of fans at PBTS? Massillon fans might actually implode if they can't make games on Friday nights.

If we play, it might be a bigger mess than we expect. I'm speculating on what schools will have to do, but be prepared for not going to games this year.

The bi*tch 10 cancelled because of POTENTIAL litigious nightmare they would incur if something goes wrong.

I have totally mixed emotions about the decision to play/or not play sports. Purely selfish reasons, I want sports to go on as scheduled. But much like the decisions in the winter when schools cancel games due to weather, I wouldn't want to make the decision whether it is safe. It will be a tough decision for both the governor and also our local schools to make. I will support either decision. If I don't want the responsibility, I won't criticize the ones that do.

The positive thing for Massillon though is that if they strictly do percentages of capacity they’ll still be able to have a decent amount and also they already have the tv/live stream capabilities in place

There will never be an announcement. Just an announcement that there will be an an announcement.

The other positive is a couple thousand fans (besides family) could make up the difference by paying 5 x the regular ticket price in order to get selected. If they were to do that. I ain't joking either. Hell I'll pay 50 bucks to help my alma mater - and see my team play. :)

We received an e-mail from our school's AD that in prep for the season....if Dewine approves play....they will implement the following:

On line ticketing only......a vendor will be announced who has already contracted with most high schools in Ohio. No tickets or money at the gate. All stands will be open...including the end zones...which have never been used prior. Attendance will be maxed at 1500....which for our school will be sufficient to handle most who want to attend football. Distancing will be required with families sitting together...but apart from others. Masks will be required all season....regardless if the state mandate ends. Concessions will be open....but no fountain drinks....only bottled....and all food items will be prepackaged.

Do you have information about B1G financial reserves or a payout coming to member schools? The fact is that the conference, like its member schools, relies on annual football revenue and spends accordingly. After all, before 2020 who seriously could've imagined a whole football season being wiped out? Those with "lesser clout" ultimately have less to lose because their budgets depend more on student fees and support from the university's general fund and less on football revenue.

Sorry everyone who is uninterested for getting into a discussion on college AD financials in a HS football forum...
Say what now? You think football budgets are based upon student fees to pave the way? The B1G splits money fairly even. And yes. Television revenues are the driving force for the 52-56 million dollar payouts the schools have received, making the B1G and the schools a surplus in funding. The billion dollar television deal with Big Ten Network and Fox has the funding coming in regardless. Will individual schools suffer from fan attendance and concession sales? Of course. But this was more politically driven than monetarily driven. The B1G hands out around 10-15 million more to each member school than any other conference. It's surplus in funds will not be effected and each school will still get their funding on the current deal (6 years I believe). So, this is not driven completely by money. It's driven by the politics of the generally liberal schools.

Anyway. A high school football forum. Looking forward to hearing something positive today.

Smart post of the day. Well said, we’re asking for HS football but there’s a good chance of no fans. If that happens we are just going to bankrupt/destroy athletic budgets in this state.

Idk what school you are but what is the capacity of your stadium?

So, announcement on a Friday....likely very late in the day, mayabe in the evening after normal biz hours. That is when they tend to put out their cowardly mandates/decisions....

Dewine (RINO), along with Governors and Mayors (few exceptions DeSantis -FL, Noam-SD who have their acts together) are part of a bigger plan to destroy the economy to help create a Global Economy. If you all don't see what is going on then you better pay more attention.

This virus was released by China (per the World Order, i.e. Soros and Co.) with a purpose to give people the flu as a cover story, it was not meant to destroy human life, just our dollar. The test are almost all false positives, as Bill Gates even says all the while in his quest with Fauci to corner the vaccine market and make billions more. The death counts are just what they are, death counts with no basis for actually dying from Covid and blown out of purportion to fit the agenda that DeWine is a big part of. Even Dewine tested positive for several hours with the bogus testing kits they are using on us until he took a more thorough test several hours later. What does that tell you guys? Wake up please.

All deaths are listed as Covid for financial gains for the hospitals. All Covid has done is speed up the death process for what is a national average age of about 82 yrs old per state. Those people got the flu, had underlying conditions that prevented them from recovering like 99.9% of the rest of us and they passed unfortunately alone and isolated by our twisted sick leaders with no family around for love, compassion and support, how pathetic.

Sports being cancelled, or restarted in empty stadiums and arenas, plays a huge role in trying to isolate us and keep us from congregating in order to prevent us from fighting back against this silliness with mask and living in fear, which is most everyone who is not a sports fan. I think all of us jocks on here and sport nuts know this is nothing more than a flu...but as long as church's and school's remain closed or in a limited gathering fashion, the World Order wins. Fight back people, have a voice, organize...the protesters that are destroying cities, BLM (Marxist-Socialist political group) and Antifa get away with it and so can we if we just fight back...you want Football so bad then start speaking up to your weak school Superintendents, local mayors etc.. teachers want to go back and teach (have several coaching buddies I speak to daily that all teach) unlike what you are hearing from the national teachers union (well I will clarify that teachers in suburban and rural communities want to, not the weak arse city teachers who want to run and hide from the inner city kids they hate teaching anyways). If you want Football and fall sports...start screaming from the roof tops about it, not just on here. I hope what Dewine does today is not bad news but I am not holding my breath.

They have had 10 days of official practice(mandatory Sunday off day only). DeWine/Husted have had the time they need to made a decision. I believe it will come today. If not a football decision, then a soccer decision at minimum.

What makes you think Fox will pay television rights for games that aren't played? Any contract this large written by a competent person has a measure to void it in extenuating circumstances.

If you want to hypothesize that this was done for political reasons be my guest. But don't downplay the financial blow the athletic departments will take.

Sickening to keep the players in limbo like this not to mention the Athletic Directors that are scrapping last minute to try to piece a schedule together after OHSAA last minute decision for 6 games. This could not have been handled any worse by DeWine. I really hope the media reporters grill him hard on the topic today in questioning.

What in the heck are you talking about?

Not saying I called it, but more so tired of it. What's the hold up? Anyone?
Here’s what someone will say, if he doesn’t say anything today it will definitely be tomorrow, if it’s not tomorrow I got a good source that says it’s the next day, but if not I really do got a good feeling it will be Monday, but if not then definitely by next Tuesday.

If there indeed is no announcement today it will be a truly pathetic and spineless move by Dewine. To pimp out all these kids by having them push the #Iwantaseason crap and pro mask narrative just to string them along and pull the rug out when they’re a week away from their seasons would be yet another nail in his political coffin

Soccer has spent years saying how much of contact sport they are now all a sudden its not
