My daughters used to take piano lessons from a lady in New Knoxville, and about half of her students were home schooled kids using her for their music requirements. Always seemed to be more than a couple of home schooled families in New Knoxville in the past.

According to the last Ohio state report card there are 54 kids who live in New Knoxville that open enroll to another public school. That's a K-12 number and it doesn't say where they are going or why.

I am not familiar with New Knoxville schools but I would guess it is a number of things that 54 kids (approximately 4.15 per grade/class) open enrolled out of the district. Beside sports & in particular not having a football team, one could wish to send their child elsewhere if the child is on a IEP. I would assume a very small school would have even less resources for kids who need speech, OG, intervention specialist, etc. Also, say one wants their child to take advance classes - does new Knoxville offer classes that one could get college credits for. Again, I am not familiar with the New Knoxville school district so perhaps they do offer many of these things.

New Knoxville does not offer football (don't know how many NK students go to NB to play football if any, also NK did not have a softball team last year and been awhile since the baseball team has been competitive have not won a league baseball game in 5 years, kids may be going to Botkins or New Bremen for baseball and softball. Just all guesses on my part but 54 kids OE elsewhere is a lot.
Here’s what I know, and I am intimately familiar with both schools. On Bremen’s 2020 State Championship team there was 1 NK boy who open enrolled and 1 who was homeschooled. Neither were prominent players on that team. There were 3 (I believe) who had one or two parents who were graduates of NK but now live in NB. There are several families who live on the wrong side of a road, that divides the school districts and send their kids to NB when they actually live in NK (there are some that go the other way as well). There are at least two families who live in NK school district that either are or will be sending their kids to NB. The folks around NK are a little butt hurt about this because they are families that have a parent that graduated from NK (Dad is actually a 1000
Point scorer for NK), the other family had a parent from NK and one from NB (NB Mom was also an outstanding athlete). From my understanding they just think NB is a better place for their children, sports had little to do with it.

This is spot-on. And I'll add to it.

I know of a few families, close personal friends, that built south of Amsterdam Rd out by the Y between NB and Minster. That's Minster school district. They built there knowing they could open-enroll to NB. Roettger Rd by 274 also has a TON of new houses and I would assume that's NK school district. Most people that built there are McCartyville/Anna people that want to send their kids there. So that takes a lot out of what is technically NK school district but the parents never had any intentions of sending their kids to NK, and most of those kids never stepped foot in NK school.

In this age of open enrollment it would be interesting to see an enrollment list from all schools and see where their students live, K-12. For a great majority of schools in Ohio you can live anywhere and still go to the school you want to go to. Does that list show students who enrolled at one school then later open enrolled to another or students who open enrolled to another school in kindergarten?

I think it'd be interesting to see that data as well. I know at my kids' school there are OE students from 7-8 schools just off the top of my head.

Just a certain section. Now I know an address on Amsterdam, even if you're on the south side, is still NB but anything south of there is Minster. (Basically, two neighbors that live across the street from each other are still going to NB)

I think you’re asking for more information than any school (or the ODE) would be willing to provide.

Roettger south of Lock Two is Anna, North of Lock Two is NK.

Gotcha. So my details and examples may not be 100% accurate but my point is the same. Sometimes you build where its available, affordable, closer to work, but you plan to send your kids to your alma mater, what you feel is a better fit, or for athletics.

Yeah, you're probably right. Could get somewhat dicey if there's only a select few students who enrolled elsewhere.

just watched the end of the game, the game was CALLED after the shattered backboard......they made NO mention of it being postponed, the officials made the call that the game was over.
