Massillon @ St. Xavier scrimmage #2

There was a time when I would view a scrimmage as some kind of indication of how good my team would be.

Now I want my team to be good in the last game, not the first

St X and Massillon both view it that way too.
Exactly ! It’s the famous Iverson rant….we talkin bout practice ???

X fills their schedule pretty easily. GCL, Colerain, Iggy, LSX, Cathedral or another Indy team and Lou. Trinity are all shoe ins.
Not so-- Or X would not have been scheduling godforsaken games against "Football North" in multiple recent seasons... but the new playoff format-- with virtually ALL Division I teams making the playoffs-- may encourage a few of the cowards in Ohio's Division I to finally step up and play somebody that they fear they cannot beat-- as a learning experience, if they ever hope to compete for a state title.

That was one of the more unequal 3-3 ties that I have seen; X moved the ball at will (with penalties really being the only thing stopping the X offense)-- both with the run and the pass. Meanwhile, Massillon struggled a lot on offense-- the Massillon field goal was set up by one big play (a ~50-yard run that initially looked stopped, but broke wide open)-- but other than that, Massillon never looked like a threat to move the ball. The idea that Massillon was close to completing two or three other big pass plays is stretching it quite a bit. The long pass on which pass interference was called (on X) looks like a very poor call. X looked like it could run the ball (for big gains) to the left side on Massillon pretty much whenever it wanted to.

Also, I don't know if it had to do with some prior agreement-- but a couple of times, after X's defense stopped Massillon, the play re-started with Massillon getting the ball again for another series of downs-- so the possessions were not alternating.

We talking about practice, not a game, not a game, we talking about practice, man.

Evidently you watched a different scrimmage. St. X had a 121-94 advantage in total yards. The Massillon running backs had 67 yards in 7 carries (9.6 ave.). St. X running backs gained 43 yards in 9 carries (4.8 ave.)

Massillon had one carry for ~50 yards-- other than that, it was 6 carries for ~15 yards. Massillon never stopped X, when X ran left; most of X's runs went for 6-8 yards at at time. Massillon also never stopped X's short and intermediate passing game.

Also, the scrimmage did not seem to use true alternating possessions-- as noted above, at least twice, after X stopped Massillon on downs, the play re-started with Massillon's offense getting the ball again-- whereas that never was done for X. Thus the offensive possession were weighted in Massillon's favor.

If you think it was roughly equal, then have at it. I believe that a real game between these two teams right now would not be close.

I do love the way X has the QB go under center at times. Play action is so much more effective.

Massillon has some real burners again this season.

However, that 50 yard run counted. Actually, the Tigers should have scored on that play. As far in this scrimmage rules, each team was allotted 10 consecutive plays. Your last paragraph is laughable, and doesn’t even deserve a response.

Keep telling yourself that... we'll see who is where, in December.

Why do you come on here so cocky? Massillon did miss on some big plays I watched the entire thing and actually noted a lot of things for both teams. I came out and said how well X played and had nothing but good things to say as well as others on here and then you come along and try to discredit anything our kids did today. I still wish X nothing but the best but don’t come on here and act like our kids didn’t accomplish anything today against your squad. To keep it all the way honest your lucky Hartson got tripped up. Brawley had your DB burnt and the throw was a pinch long or that was another 6 and Banks had your DB burnt again on another long pass that was a pinch too long or that could’ve been another 6. My point is we did some good things and obviously some things not so well. We didn’t pass protect the best today. X was better up front. X did a lot of things well today but only put up the same amount of points as we did. Is X better right now than Massillon? Yes. Is that to be expected right now? Yes. I like what they bring to the table and facing them today made us better. Again good luck to St.X this season

Dude, It was set up to run 10 plays for each series ! Give it a rest

Wow, all that out of a scrimmage. Sounds like we need to give X the big gold trophy, and the Tigers should start getting ready for basketball season.

Since Massillon really doesn't focus on any other sport than football-- perhaps the Tigers could start getting ready for the 2022 football season.
