McDonald is definitely down again, and a tough OOC schedule to boot with Strasburg Tuesday, then also having West Branch and Girard coming up. They do start a Freshmen and bring one off the bench so hopefully they can improve throughout the year. For small schools, Lowellville and JFK will be the 2 best teams. Springfield should be solid but way down from where they've been the last few year, not sure what Mathews has back from last year but they did lose to Milton.

Who, in everyone's view, is "up" in the valley?

No idea tbh, I don't follow basketball nearly as much as football so can only really give knowledge on the MVAC and parts of the D4 district. I would say Lowellville is up, although they have had good teams every few years not sure if this one is much better than their other good teams.

Have you seen the new NE district? Richmond Hts, Cornerstone Christian are included with the Mahoning Valley teams..

I believe McDonald lost to Waterloo.
Some awful scores to start the year, you couldn’t pay me to watch games in the 20s and 30s.

Football is king in our area #1 but 3 teams made state finals which is awesome.

#2 Teams don’t value putting in time to develop shooters. Teams that rely on layups and continuity offenses are too easy to guard. Coaches are too afraid to open it up. Kids can dribble and make a layup but that can’t happen in good halfcourt d

#3 most local AAU is terrible, everyone has their kid playing the same garbage tournaments thinking kids are improving but reality is from a skill perspective they are flatlined and maintaining being mediocre. No one wants to challenge themself but they also want that instant gratification. There is a reason why locally we hardly have teams make deep runs in tournament.

I thought Ursuline had a chance for a deep run this year but was surprised when they lost to Canfield.

Not only surprised they lost but then Mooney beat canfield... thought Mooney was decent but maybe not.

In fairness Canfield did have 3 or 4 players out for that game. Mooney also had at least one or two of their best guys out. That may have at least something to do with the 39-29 final score.

South range and Jefferson was cancelled due to SR parents calling the coach mean at the board meeting and a bully smh. What is this world coming to where a coach can’t be hard on a kid
