Lewis County 34 Boyd County 21

This was my first time catching a game at Russell high school and I have to say it was a nice experience.
The home stands set up high and at the very top you have enough overhang to block out most of the rain.
The stadium is well lit and very open.

Just remember this covers only the varsity portion of the contest.

With 10:39 showing on the clock Boyd County called on Thomas Salyer and all he did was pick up ten yards, using his line and some John Riggins like power to gain the yards.Staying with the ground and pound plan Boyd County called on Jacob Kelly to run the ball and he answered the call, with a forty three yard run as he broke left and took off.Just five seconds later Salyer punched it in from six yards out, by going right to the heart of the Lewis County defense.Clayton Crum had just enough leg to make this point after kick and give his team a 7-0 lead.

With 7:50 left in the quarter Salyer pounced on a fumble by the Lewis County offense bringing the small Boyd County crowd a little something to cheer about. Early on the Lions from Boyd County was making a statement that said we are not the same team you all have gotten used to. The young Lions from Boyd I will guess will take every little piece of improvement they can earn in hopes of getting things turned around. As one once said a wall has to be built one brick at a time. The ensuing drive after the recovered fumble resulted in a net minus fourteen yards. The Lions of Lewis County defense covered for the mishap by their offense in a big way.

Defense ruled the rest of the opening quarter and the teams headed into quarter number two, with Boyd County leading by seven.

Just thirteen seconds left into the 2nd quarter Garrett Applegate for Lewis County was stopped by Tristin Carroll on third and nine, for a short loss. Applegate started slow in this one, but his talented allowed him to overcome. On fourth and nine, with 11:07 remaining in the half Lewis County elected to go for it and that choice was made great, when Zach Robersion made the catch and did not stop until he crossed pay dirt. The point after from #4 David Keen locked this one up at seven.

Robersion would scoop up a Boyd County fumble and score on a run of nearly forty yards.. The point after kick from Keen hit the crossbar leaving the score 17-7 Lewis County, with 10:55 left in the half.

Salyer would use his power to break to the right and not be stopped before he picked up twenty two yards, with 9:48 showing on the clock.Carter Stephens busted up the gut for a seven yard gain at the 8:38 mark.Salyer would pick up 19 yards on two carries, with the last one going for a seven yard score. The point after kick from Crum gave Boyd County a 14-13 lead, with 5:42 left.

Lewis County used a bolt of lighting, in the form of Immanuel Manning to score again, this one on a seventy yard run,at the 5:32 mark. The point after making this a 20-14 game, with Lewis Count leading.

Boyd County time and time again used the direct snap to a back and time after time the play picked up a nice gain,. With 2:32 left in the half, they ran the play again with the result being a nineteen yard gain from Salyer. Dude looked good all game long. With a little under a minute left in the half Boyd County faced a third and nine, with the result of the play being a ten yard gain from Stephens.:
:43 seconds showed on the clock when Garrett Applegate picked up a sack for Lewis County giving his team a big lift.
The half came to a close when Logan Lunsford plowed in from a yard out. After the point after kick a stunned crowd looked in awe, as the Lions of Boyd County headed to the Locker room with a 21-20 lead.

The final quarter was very entertaining and made this one the of the best game of the weekend, as far a I am concerned.
Lewis County got a forty four yard run from Manning to set up a four yard score from Applegate, with 8:52 left in the contest. The drive went for seventy yards and took eight plays. The point after made the a 27-21 game, with Lewis County in the lead.

In the last 6:18 of the game Lewis County came up with the big plays.
Two of them come to mind, with the first being when Randy Irey stopped Jacob Kelly, for a two yard loss and the final one being the games last score. Robersion hauled in a pass and went forty eight yards for the score. The point after made the final score Lewis County 34 Boyd County 21.
