Sad news out of the Viking Village today. VASJ HS Hall of Famer, former Head Coach, Athletic Director, Notre Dame All American, and Cleveland Brown Tom Schoen has passed away yesterday (1/30/23) at the age of 77.

Schoen who graduated from St. Joseph (now VASJ) in 1964 and spent a season with the Cleveland Browns in 1970, served as the head coach from 1995, replacing John Storey, until stepping down after the 2005 season. During that time, he served as the Vikings AD from 1998 up until 2006, and led the 6-4 Vikings to a Cinderella run in the 2003 playoffs upsetting Cardinal Mooney in the 1st round before bowing out against Versailles in the state championship game at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

Coached with Tom in 1997 on the team that went 6-4. Was his D coordinator and AD that year. Truly an honor being part of the Viking Village, and no one was as passionate as Tom Schoen. Other great coaches on that staff as well. Tom was just a special individual. He bled Columbia blue and red. RIP
