Elder Wrestling 2022-2023

Looking ahead to Friday night, Elder is coming out to wrestle East Central under the lights in the Performing Arts Center. The last time we were able to get this on the stage in was an awesome dual and came down to last match. I don't think we will be able to repeat that finish but it should be a really cool environment for the boys and the admission is free! The dual has been promoted on social media and on the radio in Dearborn County and we are hoping to pack the PAC on Friday night. Hope to see a bunch of purple out here on Friday!

As always Steve Naltner events don’t disappoint! Great atmosphere to have a dual!

Not the results you want but that dual could have went either way … Elder losing 3 matches by 1 and another in overtime. Avenge those loses at Districts. Keep plugging away Panthers !

Ouch. Losses by top two guys is surprising.

You know those four Panthers would love to have another match against the Lancers who beat them last night. But they may not have to wait until the OHSAA Kettering District tournament to do it.
The Panthers and Lancers are in the bottom half of the Fairmont district bracket of the OHSWCA State Dual tournament. On Saturday, February 4, the bottom half will wrestle at Ross (LaSalle is the #2 seed and the Panthers are the #3 seed) while the top half will wrestle at Springboro (Springboro is the top seed and Lebanon is the #4 seed). If the Panthers can take Ross and the Lancers can take Beavercreek they will meet for a trip to the championship tourney the following Saturday at LSE.
Joey Thamann lost a close one to Sebastian Vega, who wrestled for Conner last season and finished second at 106 at the Kentucky state championships to the wrestler who would go on to win the 106 pound 16U National Freestyle title last July at Fargo.

While I believe every match matters , in the end wrestling for a March trip to The Dance is the goal. The name on the Board is the ultimate goal. Avenging losses at Districts or State are far sweeter than February duals. Once the month of championship begins it’s all that matters. Thank you again for your research, it’s always nice to see what you post on here about the team.

Quick question for Steve Naltner, if you're out there. I saw that a Dylan Lengerich wrestled 144 for East Central at the Ryle Raider Rumble. I seem to recall, and my memory isn't the best, that a Jim Lengerich (?) wrestled for the Panthers many moons ago. I may have the first name wrong and his last name may have been spelled differently, he actually may have nothing to do with Dylan L, but out of curiosity does this ring a bell with you?
The last time the Panthers wrestled at the East Central PAC in January 2020 I remember I had hard time posting updates because I couldn't keep a steady connection. Maybe it was the phone I had back then, maybe it was AT&T's fault, maybe it was a combination of both of those, but hopefully I won't have a problem posting updates tonight.
Go Panthers!

Joe, when you arrive to the PAC , if you ask to speak to Steve Naltner he will help out with wifi access if he can. He’s like the mayor of the town. Lol

I do not believe they are related. I will try and get a wifi for you. Also the dual is going to be streamed for those who cannot make it. But would love to see everyone there. Got to see some of the songs linked up with the lighting this afternoon. It is really cool. Should be a memoriable night for these young men.

Fun atmosphere for the boys. Awesome job by Steve Naltner and EC putting it all together. Talking with some of the wrestlers afterwards and pretty much everyone said that was awesome.

As Tajma said, the atmosphere was great. To Steve Naltner, it was a pleasure meeting you last night and thanks again for your help.
Next week the grapplers will host Oak Hills in a dual Thursday night, visit Colerain for a dual Friday night, and then travel to Delaware Hayes for the Rieman Invitational on Saturday, their last individual tournament of the regular season.

This week will be a busy week for the grapplers. Thursday night they will host Oak Hills in a dual, visit Colerain for a dual Friday night, and then travel to Delaware Hayes for the Rieman Invitational on Saturday.
The Highlanders are led by seniors Wyatt Ferguson and Freddy Tallarigo and sophomore Brady Singler; the latter two were ’22 district qualifiers. Ferguson, who I believe came up through the Elder youth wrestling program, did not wrestle at last year’s Lebanon sectional, presumably because of an injury. This season Ferguson won the 190 title at the Sample and two weekends ago he finished second at the Maumee Bay Classic at Oregon Clay. In the semifinal Ferguson beat Abe DeLano of Ayersville, who is ranked #1 at 190 in D-III by borofan, but lost in the final to Tiffin Columbian’s Max Ray, an Ohio University commit who borofan has ranked #1 at 190 in D-II.
Colerain is led by their ’22 state qualifier junior Bryce Sears and their returning ’22 district qualifiers senior Jamier Carpenter and sophomore Kyser Kostoff.
I’ll post something on the Rieman in a day or two, but a glance at the entry list shows that Massillon Perry should be favored followed by Dublin Coffman.
Both duals are slated to start at 7:00 p.m. Be there both nights. Aloha.

After the grapplers hopefully take care of business tonight at Colerain they will be at Delaware Hayes tomorrow for the Rieman Invitational, their final individual tournament of the regular season. It is one-day pools-to-brackets tournament, and a post in the wrestling forum lists the following 12 schools as attending along with the Panthers and host Delaware Hayes: Dublin Coffman, Dublin Scioto, Grove City, Grove City Central Crossing, Hilliard Davidson, Lakota West, Loveland, Massillon Perry, Mount Vernon, Olentangy Lewis Center, Olentangy Berlin, and Painesville Riverside.
In his preview of the tournament borofan doesn’t have anything listed under “Best Possible Matches” but then lists seven possible matches under “Team Predictions.” Of the teams that will be at the Rieman Massillon Perry is listed the highest in his D-I team projections at the Schott, he has them finishing fifth.
Massillon Perry is led by their eight returning ’22 state qualifiers. They are seniors Austin McBurney (sixth at 120) and Christian Giltz; juniors Nate Dulcie, Charles Curtis, and Aiden Fockler; and sophomores Emeric McBurney (sixth at 106), Marshall Geckler, and Landen Johnson. The Panthers also have talented frosh Mason Rohr, Liam Montgomery, and Brennan Warwick.
The action starts at 10:00. Instead of using Track or Flo to post results, the folks from Delaware Hayes once again will be posting images of the brackets at the conclusion of each round on their wrestling twitter page, so I plan on relaying Elder’s results here as they are posted.
Varsity action at the Colerain dual starts at 7:00. Be there. Aloha.

Here is the Panther lineup for today:
106: Broxterman
113: Lambers
120: J Thamann, Brady Little*
126: Jacob Mentz
132: B Mentz

Konner Lambers and Joey Thamann have dropped down a weight class from last night. I believe Jacob Mentz is making his varsity debut. Little has an "X" after the school abbreviation of "CE" which I take to indicate that, while he can win matches, he cannot score team points.
