Div I, Region 4 Playoff Thread

Moeller is the favorite IF Marshall plays.
St. Xavier has been playing better now that they have been giving the sophomore sensation Vollmer more touches.
Milford maybe if they are healthy.
Bolden teams are always playing their best football come playoff time. Watch out for LW.
A lot has been talked about Princeton. Are they good enough to be the GCL? They are good, but I don't think this is the Princeton of the '80s.
Don't sleep on Elder. They have the offensive line play for football weather.
Pretty good take. I would be shocked if the final four in the region involves anybody other than these 6 teams. The only, only possibility is if Milford is upset due to their QB being injured and Fairfield/Lebanon/Mason gets there. Lakota West-Elder winner and Moeller-X winner are guaranteed to be 2 of the other spots. Finally, while I know Princeton won very late and controversially against Hamilton earlier this year, they are a lot better than Hamilton, and Hamilton still has to get through Sycamore first (Hamilton won on a kick return TD with 3 seconds left in the regular season).

If Milford is healthy, their biggest challenge when playing Moeller or X will be handling the big game moment. Grippa has been there, but his players haven't, and it would be the single biggest game in Milford history. Moeller or X expect to be in, and win, that game. I think that always means that a team like Milford has to be clearly better than a team like Moeller or X to win that kind of game. Lakota West has been in the regional final each of the last 3 years, so they will handle the moment no problem. Princeton has been good as well, but not quite on the same level. Their players are young, but they have a tremendous coaching staff with a head coach in Parker that has been in big games. I also feel that there is always a toughness that Princeton has that will serve them well in a big game.

I'll take the following by round:

Round 1
Milford over Fairfield
Lebanon over Mason
Moeller over West Clermont
St. Xavier over Springboro
Lakota West over Western Hills
Elder over Oak Hills
Sycamore over Hamilton
Princeton over Middletown

Round 2
Milford over Lebanon
Moeller over St. Xavier
Lakota West over Elder
Princeton over Sycamore

Semifinal
Moeller over Milford
Princeton over Lakota West

Final
Princeton over Moeller

The Vikings are 7-38 All-Time vs Moeller. They better bring their A game. If both teams get that far, no way they can block Moeller d-Line, their QB will be on the run, Moeller will dominate on both lines of the scrimmage, and beat the Vikes like they always do.

An honest question, how good would the 80's teams of Princeton/Moeller be now with the parity of the Southwest/Ohio be? In other words, alot more talent at alot more schools then good ole' Princeton and Moeller.

The talent is much more advanced and developed today. The '80s were much more primitive overall. Despite how recruiting occurred back then, football generally was just a fall season sport where the players moved on to different things in winter and spring, before picking it back up in July. They didn't attend elite out of state camps and practice year round the way they do now. Also back then, schools didnt travel out of the area very much to play other powerhouse programs. But, you could say Moeller, Princeton and Centerville in the '70s and '80s were trailblazers who were the first to start modernizing Ohio HS football. Princeton was considered the premier public HS football program in the nation and one of the most feared names in the sport.

Surgery = Opt Out
Good to know that those are the same thing.
Opt = short for optional. Optional meaning choices. Unless you are implying that he chose to get injured and require surgery it does not =opt out.
You clowns coming on here insinuating that a kid has chosen not to finish his high school career is pathetic.

That was exactly my point. He isn't opting out of his season. His injury requires surgery and therefore he cannot complete his season.
No way that kid "opts out" of his high school career! Any other narrative is complete made up BS!!

Round 1
FF over Milford Huge upset
Mason Over Lebanon GMC gets it done...
Moeller over West Clermont WC has no chance in this one...
St. Xavier over Springboro X wins by 3 scores
Lakota West over Western Hills Does West High even get off the bus for this beatdown?
Elder over Oak Hills Elder has the horses 10+.
Sycamore over Hamilton If Sycamor can hold onto the ball they take this rematch...
Princeton over Middletown Princeton goes to 11 and 0 in the GMC...

I like WEST to win the region.....

Sadly, the stadium is long gone and there will soon be a new Mercy Health hospital opening there.
That is sad as that's where Centerville took down the #1 Team in the Nation on a 1984 rainy night when only 2 teams from each Region were invited to the playoffs.

Elder will beat Oak Hills pretty easily. People just play it up as a "rivalry", but it's really not. They'll will win by 3+ TDs. Not sure why people say LW is the perfect draw for Elder. They'd have a better shot against Milford and X. Big time athletes give Elder fits. If OH can manage to pull the monumental upset (it's not happening), the Elder forum would implode.

I think X is vulnerable.

People aren't willing to give Princeton and Milford their due just yet. They will have to prove it in the playoffs.
Milford will be without their starting Sr. QB who led them through the first 9 wins of their historic season. Unfortunately, it may be a short playoff run.

Colerain AD , you’re fired. Coach, you’re fired. School board, you’re up for reelection. See you at the polls.
With Northwest at 700 students and CHS at 1700 they could make NW a freshman building and CHS 10th-12th like in the 80s/90s and still have less students than back in the day.
Too much tax payer money wasted and student outcomes and opportunities lopsided. Not to mention HS attendance for freshman is below 85% since there is no bus service. at the HS...Unlike FF, and a couple other districts around NWLSD....Matt and Jim need to go and hopefully stronger members get elected...

Is he definitively out for the season? I know he’s out for Round 1, but I had heard he could have been back for Round 2. Milford should probably win those 2 games without him. They’re still a really good team. They would need him against Moeller or X though.

Man n I heard Princeton in the 80s was good af I'm only 32 I never got to witness them in hay day.

Heard he had a collar bone injury from a parent up the street whose son is on the team. Not sure how long he'll be out.

No doubt!
That was the most unbelievably ridiculous ending to a playoff game ever. Giving up 21 straight points in 1 minute. Why are the Elks so jinxed in the playoffs? Really, they should have won the State in their first three playoff appearances, and in '99. Since then, they can't seem to do anything. But why?

I do not think Colerain and Northwest combine, I do not think the voters build a new facility (although they need one). A district with too many catholic voters it will never pass.

I agree with all of that. What I'm saying though is Princeton had some DOMINANT teams comparatively speaking. They won 3 or 4 state titles in an era Moeller and St. Ignatius were winning national titles. This 2023 10-0 Princeton team is good, but they are not on that level yet of the old teams. Again, comparing how dominant they were in their respective eras and not saying 1987 would beat 2023 Princeton, who knows maybe 1987 would give them an old school hard hitting butt kicking. I'm just comparing how each team fared vs. their respective competition.

Agreed. Would need some kind of scenario with state money and even that may not be enough. There are quite a few empty nesters who would likely go against it, not to mention a high volume of Section 8 housing owners that would likely not want to pay higher taxes. Chances are they don't live in the district and have no vested interest in the schools.

Challenging all around.
