With the shutdown looming, are the Democrats going to hold America hostage with their demands for illegal aliens?
 
 
Ha- GOP has control of House Senate and POTUS...they can out vote the Dems at anytime they just can't figure out how to get things done when they are in power...though they are good at holding hostages. The freedom caucus is the problem.

Well now reports are emerging that there are actually 3,600,000 "dreamers" not just the 700,000 number thrown around.

Actually, they need 60 votes to pass most laws. Makes a great point as they go into mid-terms though. The Democrats are going to look stupid here.
 
It truly is amazing how disfunctional and sleezy DC is. This could be a period of unbelievable growth and prosperity, but they will do there best to eff it up
 
Dick Durbin in a statement this week said he was devoting himself to one problem and only one problem - at least until march. That problem is finding a way to get amnesty for the illegals that Obama called Dreamers. Here we have a politician that was elected (mostly I guess)and paid for by American citizens that is going to work only on one problem and that is to get criminals pardoned. I would like to know what happened to working for the people that elected you and all of us that pay the taxes that pay his salary.

I feel sorry for the Onion. How can a satirical magazine survive when our elected representatives like Dick Durban behave in this way? I mean this piece of crap is putting folks who came to this country illegally ahead of all the other business of this country? This same guy who deliberately threw a grenade into the negotiations to legalize these people just last week. It should be obvious to all but the most dense that Durban and his fellow democrats do not want to find a solution to legalize the DACA people. They prefer the issue at the expense of the people.

The first question I have is what are the Republicans putting in their version of the bill? If they are asking for a wall and more border agents then the Dems have the right to bring in other immigration issues. I agree that U.S. citizens should come first but one side can't walk all over the other. There needs to be some compromise.
 
As Obama said elections have consequences. Oh I forgot that is only if a Democrat is elected otherwise if a R is elected he most pass whatever the D's want with out the D's giving anything because we all know the only right way is the D's way. The Democrats do not understand the meaning of compromise. They think it means doing it their way that is how you compromise. All i can say about the Govt is SHUT IT DOWN!!!!! and let the blaming begin.

All over the news today they have been saying that the Democrats don't object to anything in the bill. Their only objection is what is not in the bill (protections for illegal aliens).

What is also interesting is that to force this shutdown, the Senate only needs 41 Senators to vote against the bill. That is why they are calling it the "Schumer Shutdown". He can't get a majority to follow him but he can get a large enough minority to shut this government down.

I haven't seen any news today. I've been in the baseball coaches clinics at the convention center. I don't have anything until 3:30 so I will go get lunch and try to catch the news. I will say that if their only reason for not voting is DACA then they should not get paid during the shutdown.
 
When you get right down to it, who really cares if the government shuts down? If you care/have concerns, explain.

When the government shut down for 16 days in 2013 the country lost $24 billion in economic activity. Some 800,000+ non essential employees eventually got paid $2 billion for not working. That should concern every citizen that dumps their hard earned money into the tax monster.
 
We are 8 and half hours from Schumer's shut down and I turned on CNN and what do you think they were reporting on? If you guess the possibility of Trump having an affair with a porn star you would not be wrong.

Probably wouldn't be wise for Anderson Cooper to get too deep into the weeds if the subject is sexual exploits. I don't really care what Trump did to who before last Jan 20th.

In one sense it's not a big deal and as long as Trump doesn't grand stand and place barriers in front of national monuments to block their being viewed by Americans in order to make them feel the "pain" of a shut down (yes, Obama did peevishly do this), most people won't notice anything different.

The issue is in those government departments, like NASA and the Defense department, that require long term planning and execution of various projects. The military is really hurt by these shut downs and the inability of the congress to reliably budget on a yearly basis.

That the democrats would shut the government down on an issue that Trump has already met them half way on proves that the dems have NO interest in actually solving the "dreamers" issue and granting these people legal status in the country.

I have not be listening to CNN, but I can bet they are not talking about the memo on the FISA scandal. They take their lead and talking points from the Democrats and right now they are not talking much about the memo. Of the 140 congressmen that have gone into the secure area to read the 4 page memo it is reported only one was a Democrat. How can you talk about something you have not even read? I really find it sad that we can not at this time be told what it says, all the people that read it say is head are going to roll and if any of what is in the report is true people should be headed to prison.
 
What I really like about the shut down is who gets to work and who gets paid. it seems a lot of people get to work but will not get their pay until the shut down is settled. The one group that does get paid during this time of shut down is all are wonderful Congressman, the same people that could not get together and pass a bill to get the Govt open. All I can say is what a joke!!!! I tell you this no Congressman should be allow a day off until they come to their senses and get a bill passed.
