Very sadly, I report the passing away of a very good basketball, football and baseball/softball umpire from the Southeast District in Matt Orin. Matt passed away over the weekend at the way too early age of 39. Matt worked the State Tournament in all of those sports and also was the President of the Portsmouth Chapter of the Southeast Basketball Officials Association. Matt left behind his wife -Kaci - and a young (6 years old) daughter. Words are not coming easy describe Matt so I will close by saying goodbye to a fellow official.

A stunned, empty feeling was felt by many when the news spread yesterday. We all ache for his wife and daughter as well for all those touched by this tragic news.
