COVID Testing and Contact Sports

With this as the latest guidance from OHSAA:

Football
• Official practices will begin on Saturday, Aug. 1, with the normal acclimatization period in place.
• No school vs. school scrimmages are permitted.
• School vs. school contests will follow per their normal OHSAA permissible dates and regulations with a target date of the week of Monday, Aug. 24 (Note: This date is subject to change and subject to the approval from the Governor’s Office/Ohio Department of Health and with the stipulation that COVID-19 testing will not be required).

it all seems to hinge on whether the COVID-19 testing requirement is removed. With it in place, HS football can not have a season.

So I think the question becomes whether Ohio ODH and local boards of health are OK with allowing a contact sport (no social distancing in football!) without a rigorous testing protocol.

This is a good question. Also is DeWine willing to go against the Local Health Depts? And if the state repeals the testing does that means that the Virus has been way over blown? Does mean that wearing masks should stop? I'm not saying one way or another. But these are legit questions

This is like reading 3 books at the same time. Ohio Dpt. Of Health says practice. OHSAA says practice. And several city and county boards say no practice. Who is in charge. Most schools practicing. Some are not waiting for more guidance to just listening to the corporal city and county departments and not the state general. OHSAA desperately wanting to go forward. Kids will welcome testing if they can play. Probably lots of cancellations because of positives. Coaches have to try to keep kids away from party goers etc. seem like the Ohio Department should be who folks are listening to but I’m just a regular guy who does not like taking state orders from a county corporal.

If they’re allowed to practice all of July and August without required testing why would it change when the season starts? It’s not like college or nfl where there’s a ton of traveling taking place

Because health departments, and government want to take control, and ruin everything. They have been doing it the last 4 or 5 months

if testing is required prior to playing a HS game, there is no way we are playing this fall. Lack of funds, testing, & results backlogged, it would never work.
