High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,-and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of-wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew-
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God

--- John G. Magee on September 3, 1941.

happens everytime we get to talking about an old timer on here. Except for Bennet. He's marble.

If not for a book and a movie, he'd be virtually unknown. All about the flying to him. And the fishing.

No kidding. Just talked about The Right Stuff. When you think of American ingenuity and daredevils pushing the envelope you think of guys like Chuck Yeager.

Chuck Yeager had nerves of steel and the balls to match. RIP
I remember to this day, reading a "kids" story about Yeager breaking the sound barrier, when I was very young (maybe 8 or 9 years old). Even when I was that young, the story and his bravery left quite an impression on me.

RIP Chuck Yeager
