Catholic schools in US hit by unprecedented enrollment drop

Think about the percentage of students that go to the public schools that would not be accepted into the Private schools for academic reasons. Compare the top 10% of public schools kids to private school kids. Throw out the lowest 90% of public school ACT and SAT scores and see who is getting a better education. Pick a percentage of where you think it should be and then compare and see if Private schools are better.

51% of public school kids live in poverty. Under 5% for private and those are exceptionally gifted students either academically or athletically that are given help to go to private schools. Compare apples to apples and Public schools do a much better job. Take kids like mine and fill our public school with only kids like them and the comparison would be ridiculous. You guys are comparing top 10% vs everyone else.

Yep, publics get all of the worst students, privates pretty much don't get any of those. One of the biggest factors for success are the parents. If the parents are paying $7,000/year, you can bet they will be very involved with their child's education. Privates get the best of the best. Kind of like Ohio State football, pretty hard to be an average football team, when you have the best of the best.

So why are so many so down on the Public schools when they somehow turn out great students while not being selective?

Support the positive things they do.

There's really only 1 person who is down on public schools in this thread and QCity isn't exactly the most "all there" poster on Yappi. Where are you getting this "so many" from?

Not so much this thread, but in general. I get into this discussion quite a bit with people.
