Bob Huggins

Out at major conference D1 school...literally just have driving him around be the primary job of somebody on staff.

Between support staff and graduate assistants you have probably 8-12 people, plus at least 5-6 student managers.
Bob obviously didn’t want a chauffeur. Maybe he enjoys drinking beer and driving around what he thinks is Columbus 🤣🤣🤣

It's not over:

Love the old, wait I woke up drunk and went to rehab. Then my wife sent an email that I didn't know about. Just been getting healthy and drawing up plays. No connection to the outside world so how was I supposed to know I wasn't coach anymore.

So now is WVU going to be forced to fire him and ruin his relationship with the school over all of this.

WVU should not be forced to do anything! He is no longer employed there. The guy been a functioning alcohol for at least 2 decades until this he didn’t resign bs came about! He released a Statement apologizing but never told Anyone at WVU he was Resigning Immediately? He trying like hell to “act” like repeated Drunk Driving is a “sickness” to get as much money as he can! Knows will be his last Payday. DUI in Pittsburgh or Columbus (depends who you ask😁) was in WVU issued Vehicle and 1 tire was Flat, another Shredded? He needs to ,Sit in his Rocking Chair on his front porch and Drink Beer!!!

His story is it was his wife that emailed the school releasing a statement and not him. And then that there was no communication past then.

I'm not sure where this ends up but you'd think WVU would've at least have him sign off on somethings on the way out the door. I'd think that's common practice

Sounds like a setting for an attempt at an additional paycheck.
I'd guess they end up reaching a settlement but WVU would've had every single right to fire him with cause. It's just awkward that Huggy's now going to burn everything down at the end. The stories of his career will now be shared when people ask why he isn't invited back to celebrate the UC and WVU teams he's coached. The 100s if not 1000s of players life he touched.

His relationship with those players will still be there and they may be on his side to saying "screw the school".

Those players knew he was never stepping on the court again as soon as they heard about the arrest. He'd just survived an incident that would've taken out most coaches. There was no way to save it at that point and everyone knew.

Now he's going to end up in an ugly legal dispute burning bridges with WVU on his way out

Yep, they are going by the terms of his contract, and so is he.

Looks like he might have the upper hand here.

They had/have every right to fire him for cause and he'd have very little to stand on. Just very odd they didn't have him sign off on things on his way out the door. I'd think they'd need more than an email from his wife's account. All just really strange.

Huggins will never be coach again. I'm not sure if he'll get paid some sort of lump sum. I thought they just changed his contract to yearly with this year being $1M

I was referring to the 100s maybe 1000s of players that you were speaking of.

Even they knew he'd put the nail in his coffin. Now as he'd lead them through tough times in life, it was now their time to do that for him
His relationships with the schools may be hurt but his players that he connected with over the years will still know him for the good person he is and was as a coach. Even if some focus on the flaws.

I don't think many people close to Huggins focus on his flaws. By all accounts he's a great guy who may've developed an issue over years, or maybe it's always been there, and even encouraged. I'm in no way saying he's a bad guy. This all just seems silly and for more harm than good.

Let's be honest, if he'd spent some time on himself and get healthy. There were going to be networks that eventually gave him a chance. Now I'm not sure he get's that opportunity.

Most who have seen him speak as an analyst would probably agree there was not much of a career for him.

Thom Brennaman was Fired by Reds and NFL for saying the word F_G. No way any network would hire Huggins to be on air after using that word a drunk and not having any experience at that particular job. The comments Huggins made while on WLW a month or so ago pretty much ended his talking “on air” time.

While I agree to a point with the Thom example, nobody was tuning into the NFL or Reds games to hear what he had to say. Huggins will have a fanbase no matter what and there are plenty of ways to get around him doing live games/segments. Hell, WLW probably reached back out as soon as he made the comments on Willie's show to see if he'd fill in when Cunningham retired.

Huggins, while a great coach, is a terrible public communicator. He always came off to me as rather surely and negative based (nothing wrong with a coach being negative based as many of the best are, that's how they find what needs fixed) , not the type of personality you would ever think of putting on a network program. Often at UC he would just give two or three word answers, sitting with his arms crossed. He would never expose his inner person beyond letting us know how he feels about the Xavier fans.
