Baseball trivia

That is a really good question! Off the top of my head right now I can't even recall anybody that played for 10 different teams (other than relief pitchers).

I'm out.

How many players have hit home runs for 10 different major league franchises?
I found 7.

Name / HR / # Franchises
Matt Stairs / 265 / 11
Todd Zeile / 253 / 11
Jose Guillen / 214 / 10
Russell Branyan / 194 / 10
Marlon Byrd / 159 / 10
Kenny Lofton / 130 / 10
Henry Blanco / 72 / 10

It was fun to track down who actually had done it.

It started with Dave Kingman. Then Rickey Henderson. Then Branyan came to mind and it went from there.

Blanco only hitting 72 career homers and having them spread across 10 teams was wild.

A fun little rabbit hole to fall down.

Of course that leaves only 1 guy that's homered and stolen a base for 10 different franchises: Lofton.

Dave Kingman was the first person that popped in my mind when I read the question.

I looked at Kingman's numbers a few weeks ago. Look at his last year.

I don't know why he retired, but damn. What team today wouldn't kill for that kind of production?

Considering how high he hit his dingers, should he have been awarded two homers for each one? lol

Players who have played for 10+ franchises. Some of these played their careers in leagues other than Major League Baseball, i.e., various Negro Leagues.

Julio Franco has to be one of them
Few more educated guesses:
Jose Guillen
Alex Gonzalez
Royce Clayton
Julio Franco - 173 HR, played for only 8 franchises
Jose Guillen - yes, see post #5
Alex Gonzalez #1 (SS) - 157 HR, played for only 7 franchises
Alex Gonzalez #2 (SS/3B) - 137 HR, played for only 6 franchises
Royce Clayton - close, played for 11 franchises but hit HRs for only 9 of them, did not hit one for Washington or Boston.

I was thinking of the SS Alex Gonzales, the one who booted the DP ball for the Cubs in the Bartman game.

I had to look. Kingman played for 8 franchises. He had three separate stints with the Mets.

His career was interesting to say the least.

That would be the #2 referenced above, played for the Cubs in 2003.
This was hard. Pitchers, especially durable middle Relievers, tend to play for a lot of teams, but position players normally don’t move around to that extent.

I remember a story about how a bunch of MLB players were arguing about who hit the longest, highest, most majestic HRs. Mickey Rivers was one of the players involved in the debate. Mr. Rivers was known for his "Yogiisms." He ended the debate when he said "Dave Kingman killed an airplane!"

I also remember seeing highlights of one of his HRs with the Cubs. There were kids outside Wrigley playing in the street and maybe waiting for a HR ball. Mr. Kingman hit one so far out of Wrigley that it hit a house across the street and an old lady came out of the house and yelled at the kids for hitting her house with their ball. :)

I always remember Mickey Rivers for the quick baton twirl he would do with the bat on a swing and miss or foul ball. He had swag!

There is video of Kingman hitting an inside the park homerun. He wasn't known for speed...Also, how many teams did Bobby Bonds play for? He seemed to be on a different team every year

Good call on Bonds. I’m sure he didn’t hit a homer for ten different teams, but he sure did get around.

Single, BB, Intentional BB, dropped 3rd strike, Pinch Runner
and hit by pitch.
There are 7 but some will say 8 or 9. The argument being that an intentional walk is still a walk. Baseball purists will point out it IS different. A Pinch Runner does not count because he is not a "batter."

So, assuming BB and Intentional Walk is different you guys have 5.

Catcher interference.
