Anyone play Chess online?

I got an ad a couple of months ago for Chess.com. I've never signed up for the site but play there every once in a while against their computer bots that are supposed to be based on real people. I hadn't played Chess since I was in school years ago. Kind of fun to get back into it and the games are very quick. Just curious if anyone else plays...

I play bridge.

Haven't played chess since HS and haven't thought about it. Will give it a look though.

I play when I have time which is not much these days.

I have not played online but I have played in some chess and checkers tournaments sponsored by area churches at the Y. Maybe twice a year... good time.

At these tournaments, are there ringers or is it just a fun tournament with players from all age ranges and skill levels? We thought about having one for a fundraiser for our softball team but didn't want it to be all highly skilled players looking for prize money.

The only "ringer" is me. Lol 3x defending champ.

Seriously though, it is just a fun tournament with all ages and skill sets. We also do Euchre tournaments, Cornhole, free throw shooting contest, trivia contest and Darts. Anything to get the whole family involved in a day long fun filled event.

I was involved in a road race fund raiser for charity and was pretty close to the organizer. They offered $1,000 prize the first couple years to get people to popularize the race and remember it. After a few years the ringers started showing up. The easy fix was to reduce the prize money down to just a few bucks. Since it was a charity event it had little impact on turnout. But races, have a short lifespan generally and after 10 years it was pretty much done.
