2023-24 Ohio State Basketball

Probably good from a player development standpoint IMO.

Very good college basketball player and played professionally overseas for 7-8 years. 4 years of assistant coaching experience at Penn State and Northwestern. Good #4/#5 assistant guy IMO.

Hawkins said he isn’t going to big ten school, but if the money is right I’m sure that could change his mind. Arkan$a$ is seen as the front runner
Hopefully he said that just to appease his Illini buddies. Back up the NIL Brinks truck and change his mind.

Glad to see all the alum back in the OSU facilities for workouts and photos to give coaches a break from the hard recruiting and filling the final needed spots on the roster. I mean it's only mid-June and we still have openings..

The talent is there and he was the only guard on the team with any sort of size or length.
Unproven talent on the college court as of yet. Parish has size, Thornton is just under his height but makes up for it with his strength. He's a bad lose but not a season ending loss.

I didn't think the team was going to be any good before the Chatman injury. In my eyes they are at a net negative in regards to the players they've lost vs what they brought in

Well then I suppose your reaction to this announcement was unwarranted if you felt they were going to suck prior to it. The transfer portal has changed many things. Not every team can improve every year in the portal and with a brand new head coach there has to be some growing time allowed.

That’s where you’re wrong. This is Ohio State, who historically has a top 15 program of all time. I’m getting sick of people thinking this is some mid tier Big Ten program when it’s not. I and a lot of other OSU fans expect immediate success out of any coach the program hires or they are not OSU material.

That's where you disagree and misunderstand but I'm not wrong. Ohio State is historically a top 25 program with multiple stretches of time spent in the top 10. The school and community support basketball but the sport is clearly #2 at best on campus. This does not mean I am satisfied and accepting that. You can expect anything that you want but the reality is the program has been solid but needed a new face and the top 10 paid coaches do not have Ohio State on their list of application spots. Even Dan Hurley was below .500 his first year at UConn with 8 seasons as a head coach before getting their. Many coaches are still trying to figure out the portal.
I'm not positive Diebler is the guy but he must have been the best that was available for a reason, So I'll support him until there is proof he cannot do the job.

Yes we are in total disagreement about where this program stands. Two lists right here that have OSU firmly in the top 15. Now....they are only going to continue dropping with more and more missed tournaments and hiring of bad coaches.

As much as I enjoy history, I do not compare the teams and game of today to the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and even a lot of the 80s. The 60s have a lot to do with those rankings you post. Plus I normally make judgements from results, not potential. AP and Coach's rankings are always biased in some form and are only opinions, which is what you and I have.
Ohio State ranks 3rd in the Big Ten in conference titles. Won the Big Ten tournament 5 of the 27 years. Buckeyes have been to 2 Final Fours in the last 25 years and made it to the title game once. This tells me we have a good program but not elite or consistent one. I think we both want that to change.

Its insane how you never miss an opportunity to be miserable. We get it already I promise...Ohio State sucks at everything. You feel better now?

I'm not trying to compare anything but from a whole Ohio State basketball is a top 15 program all time and the expectations should be MUCH higher than they are. OSU has also been to 3 final fours in the last 25 years, not sure why you think they've only been to 2.

You are comparing if you use all those years. I was speaking of the recent OSU program.

Notre Dame football may have the most all times wins but that does not make them a top program in 2024.

Let's say for the sake of argument I would agree and completely disregard what OSU did pre 21st century. Since 2001 they've had pretty damn good success up until about 2020

I'm not asking anyone to disregard any success OSU has had. I'm just saying the John Lucas teams are not setting any standards for Meechie Johnson.
