2022 - State Meet consecutive top-ten streaks

Here is the 2022 list of current streaks of consecutive top 10 finishes at the state championship. I do not claim this is the best way to gauge success but see it as “state” success rather than “regional” success of getting to state. A one year slip and a school must start from scratch. This is just another way to hopefully generate interest and discussion in the sport.

26 of the state’s 60 top 10 finishing teams across all divisions were not top 10 in 2021. This is the identical number from 2020 to 2021. A little less than half the teams moved into the top 10 that were not there a year ago. This shows that it does not always take state meet experience for an outstanding showing. It also shows that there are consistently great programs in each division.

Outside of Minster, the two longest streaks of St. Ignatius (15) and CVCA (14) were broken. Neither of the two qualified to the 2022 state championship as a team. Minster’s dominance has become so routine that there is rarely any real notice of them throughout the season and 2022 was no exception. This was their 13th state title since 1982.

As a quick aside to this thread (but similar topic), it was noted on the T&F News forums that York HS of Elmhurst, Illinois - yes, the school of the famed Joe Newton coaching - MISSED their state meet this year for the first time since 1963!

There is a reason the team was called "The Long Green Line" Joe Newton won 28 Illinois State Championships: 1962, 1965, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1978, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012. A movie was made documenting the 2005 season. Here is a trailer on youtube
