Don Sutton passed away Monday evening. Definitely one of the great ones.

Sutton’s playing career was remarkable in its longevity, having pitched for 23 years, but also for his impact. The career totals are mind-blowing. Sutton ranks third all-time in games started (756), behind only Cy Young and Nolan Ryan. Sutton is also in the top 10 in innings pitched (5,282⅓), strikeouts (3,574), and shutouts (58).

He’s the Dodgers’ all-time leader in wins (233), starts (533), strikeouts (2,696), and shutouts (52), thanks to rarely missing a turn for the first 15 seasons of his career, or after.

Still the HR King in my book. The stupid idiots chasing him around the bases on his trot after hitting #715 is one of the worst fan moments in the history of sport.

Also a huge Browns fan that loved to sit in the Dawg Pound.
Thankfully we've come a long way from fans storming the field of play. This moment, Chris Chambliss post season homerun, 1960s Game 7 at the Boston Garden. At a snapshot of the time it seems like an innocent moment of regular fans getting caught up in the moment. Today we would worry about player safety and 1 goofball with evil intentions.
When I watched 715 live i saw those two guys running onto the field. But it took several times watching it to realize the elbow shiver Hank gave those two.

That was one solid man. He sure went through a lot in breaking the home run record with racism and regular death threats.

Aaron, Seaver, Morgan, Brock, Sutton, Gibson, Niekro and Lasorda all dead in recent months. The baseball heroes of my youth are slowly dying off (I'm really not that old!).

If you're looking for an interesting fairly recent Christopher Plummer movie check out Remember. Stick with it, the ending is well worth it.
