2019 Elder Volleyball

Thanks for the updates PotP. Did it seem like nerves during the Mt Vernon game? Was Vernon that good?

I didn’t see it as I arrived about 10:15, but I was told that MV had played the first match of the day (their twitter account stated that the action would start at 9:00, but didn’t list who they would play in that first match) and that the Panthers pretty much went straight from the bus to the court. This is not an excuse, MV won fair and square, but perhaps it is somewhat of an explanation for why they played they way they did. To my very untrained eye (I freely admit I know pretty much next to nothing about volleyball), it looked like they did play better against Iggy and Hoban, but maybe someone who was there and knows more about volleyball can chime in with his observations.

POTP Trivia: There is a banner in the MV gym that reads “State Semifinalist Boys Basketball 1974.” Who eliminated the Yellow Jackets from the tournament?
Whoever comes up with the correct answer wins from the POTP prize closet . . . nothing.

Varsity loses to Moeller in five 14-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 13-15

Great match to watch. Moeller may have won, but these two teams seem pretty dead even right now in my eyes and, trying to be as unbiased as I can be, I see Elder as having more potential and room to grow.

Overall, it was a poor performance from Elder offensively. Outside of Hargett, it seemed like the offense was all over the place. Serve receive was hit and miss throughout the match and decision making from the setters can use some improvement. Its early, and both setters have minimal varsity experience, but understanding situations will greatly improve this team.

Like SC10EHS15 said, there is a lot of room before they hit their ceiling and if I know anything about Elder Volleyball, they will be at their best in May.

Time to turn around and head down North Bend tomorrow evening!

JVA comes back to win 27-25 in set 3 after being down 24-22. Albers with some big swings (6-7 in a row) to finish it out.

Varsity with the bounce back win tonight - 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 15-7. The Panthers had to fight their way back from a 18-15 hole in Set 4. Big red card against a player for St X in Set 4 that gave Elder the lead.
