Agreed.

And I do not get the goals behind his statements. Is he seriously challenging the United States to knock the Netherlands off their ice skating perch because we historically have responded successfully to that kind of challenge. If ice skating is a genetic talent, we have more Dutch than they do and could add every country on the planet.

Guy must have been drunk or the only one in the Dutch contingent not getting any.

They may have a chance based on their kicking game alone... I heard you can get some serious distance with those wooden shoes...

He is right as far as the talent goes.

Imagine if all our best athletes from the big three sports football, basketball, & baseball did nothing but play soccer or in this case speedskate their whole lives. World Cup would be on lockdown and MLS would be better than the Premiere League.
 
The Dutch don't just play soccer and speed skate. Anything they really try to be good at they seem to achieve success in and it's because of how they set up they're training and ability to get a large percentage of their population into those programs. They're masterminds at this. No matter how you look at is, a country with a population of 16,000,000 being as good as they are at the number of things they're good at is impressive. Per capita they outperform many countries.

Crap, I knew I should have changed my prediction to you going to the "you're mad/butt-hurt/upset" line to feel better about yourself and make you think you won the argument once you realized the corny end-of-post line wasn't doing you any favors, though I guess I do still get partial credit since you tried the corny end-of-post line anyway with "facts seem to be unnecessary to you" line. Can't believe I blew that one though!

Look, you got trolled hard and gave me the response I wanted, which was multiple posts of several paragraphs and the use of multi-quotes, while trying to make a point that I quite honestly don't understand what it even is at this point.

The reason I trolled you to begin with is your response to the P Riot getting physically whipped by the cops was "good", and when TD called you out on it, you switched your argument to "well, they would have been arrested here for doing the same thing", which is a point that no one was arguing against, then you felt like you won because no one attempted to refute that claim that no one disagreed with, and because you threw a couple lines in like "this is like shooting fish in a barrel". You thought this made you look smart and witty, but in reality, you were getting owned by TD.

And now my next troll move will be to never open this thread again, giving me the last word in this back-and-forth :)

You "troll" people from behind your keyboard because you're a cowardly little bore. Trolls change their intent after the fact when they get so terribly beaten, acting behind multiple IDs so they do not have to risk rethinking their opinion. They say things like...
"I trolled you because," or
"I got the response I wanted" (being made fool of?)
"...I'm leaving the conversation before you do terribly make it clear I'm a bore...,"

Others might simply ask, "why do you think it was okay for them to be whipped?" or many other possible sociable things people say in conversations in order to clarify understanding or opinions. Or they might actually read what the poster posted instead of making up excuses to be unsociable...

Yes I know, admitting you might be wrong is so way beyond you but that's what the adults do. I attempted with my "multiple quotes" and "long posts" to bring facts and common understanding, something adults do. Usually deserved "trolling" is accompanied by many others piling on. You've been noticeably left out in the cold to get your whipped. Notice that?

You'll see it in another 20 years or so if you find a life beyond the keyboard, where you actually have to interact with people in real life.

It is impressive for them but aside from soccer they don't have 3 or 4 other major sports that require year round commitments. If they did that 16,000,000 would be heavily divided.
 
It's a myth that other countries do not have multiple major sports. They all do, they're just not always a mix of basketball, baseball, hockey, or racing, though those sports are actually pretty decently popular in the Netherlands. Golf is big there, too. So is cricket, F1 racing, swimming, tennis, etc..

A wiki says Field Hockey and Volleyball are their most popular team sports after soccer so there's that too. Still don't think most countries' are as divided up as we are.

Just law of large numbers and diversity of immigrant population I think. Could be my imaginings but I think we probably have a larger group of sports. About anything they do in Europe, we do About anything they do in Asia, we do... Heck, between us and Canada, I think we probably invent more new ones too.

I guess I wouldn't give us cricket but that's to our good, lol.
 
We probably have more participants than most Euro countries just because of our population size but in terms of number of sports I don't think there's going to be much between us and them. You will find the regional sports, like Gaelic Football, Aussie Rules, NASCAR, lacrosse, jai alai, or whatever.
 
Team sports, which the majority of Americans participate in only count as one medal; individual specialty sports, like cross country skiing, skating, etc., which the majority Norwegians and Dutch participate in, also count as one medal. That is the only reason those countries look like per capita super athletes compared to the rest of the world during the winter games.
