Welcome to the era of the participation trophy. Thanks for playing, here's your award. God forbid you hurt anyone's feelings. It really should be only the best player in the league at each position who is recognized. In this format, all-league selections are watered down and basically meaningless.
Ok boomer, let me guess back in your day you played barefoot and without helmets and were sustained off rainwater and salt pellets.

IMO the best all around player on Minerva's team was not on the list. I don't know how the players were picked, how kids were nominated and how the votes went and stuff like that but Haines was our best football player and didn't even get HM??

Each coach brings names and the league coaches vote on it..

But yes Haines should have been on that list some where

lol...not quite. Just saying true excellence should be rewarded. Handing out all league honors as a feel good measure only diminishes the accomplishments of players who are truly deserving of that status. In a 7 team league, let's say each team has 20 starters between offense, defense, and special teams to choose from (due to playing both ways, multiple positions) for all league consideration. So, you have a total of 140 players to consider. There are 60 players on the all EBC team. So, that means 43% of the players in the EBC are exceptionally gifted football players? If that's the case, I would think schools would be begging to join the EBC, unless they are afraid to subject their mediocre football athletes to that level of competition.

So what would your proposal be as to how they ought to conduct the all league honors?

In this size of league, 1st team and 2nd team. Offense, defense, specialists by position. if a kid is voted in on both offense and defense or specialist, so be it. I want to see who the coaches feel are the best players at their respective positions.

So you’d have about 52 all EBC award recipients instead of 60?
22- 1st team
22-2nd team
4- 1st and 2nd team K & P
4- 1st and 2nd team KR & PR
Do you have spots for TE and FB , not everyone utilizes those positions anymore. Is the defense based off a 3-4,4-3, 50, 3-3-5, 4-2?
There is no perfect system for this and it’s just to give kids recognition. Unless you have a league with 8 plus teams in it the percentage of kids recognized is going to be higher than you would like. It’s not really a big deal and it’s not like anyone really gives a rip about it either.

This has absolutely zero to do with football, but congratulations to the EBC on sweeping the D2 cross country state team titles today. Minerva girls and Marlington boys are bringing home gold! Salem girls placed 4th overall while Minerva boys placed 16th out of 20 teams. Additionally, Marlington's top boy was 2nd and Minerva's top boy 3rd overall. Marlington's 2nd boy also placed in the top 10. Marlington's top girl was 4th, and Salem's top 2 girls also finished in the top 10. Marlington had 2 more boys achieve All-Ohio status (top 30) as did Minerva's top girl.

Absolutely ! Those are terrific accomplishments. While we're at it, I'll throw Carrollton's boys golf team placing third in the state without a senior on the team, along with Marlington's girls golf coming in second.

The fact we had 3 football teams get first round wins and WB still playing proves that we aren't the scrub league many have made us out to be. Lots of accomplishments and much to be proud of across the league. Congrats to all of the athletes and coaches!

Great accomplishments by all of those young student athletes.

"Many" is really just a handful of Struthers posters with an inferiority complex

West Branch is dangerous, don’t know how far they will good, all teams left are good but they can beat teams in different ways. And their defense is starting to peak.

I don't think they will get by Glenville if that's the matchup in the finals unfortunately. I think they're missing one special athlete to be able to get that job done. Ursuline would be a tall ask too but with the Irish defense being such a weak spot they could score more than enough to win if they can get a few stops. And then there's Perry who has by far the best defense in the region and a very consistent offense. For the Warriors to win that one they have to be flawless. Regardless of how it goes though it has been a great season for West Branch

Perry still have that good back? I know a couple years ago they had a freshmen who was really good, not sure if he graduated last year or not

Just because I wasnt around for it...

2021 West Branch vs 1994 West branch. What team is better?

both went 10-0 going into playoffs

1994 west branch won state

Hmm. Not a big wb fan but remember a lot a very good teams in the 90s when the NBC was much stronger, jury is still out 2021 but only 1 way they be as good as 1994, win it all. Good luck continuing this run..
Wb had a lot of great teams in the 90s, back when the nbc was loaded. Didn’t they make a pretty deep run a couple years after the championship? Back when there were less divisions so it was harder to win playoff games. To put the 2020 team the same category as some of those teams seems a little aggressive . Great turn around and could be the start of something special but those 90s teams were something else.

1994
2020
2021
You have the #1 team right and they will never be worse than a tie for first! This year's team can't really be ranked until after the season is over. But if it ends this week I would put them ahead of 2020 and 4th on the list below.. the 2020 team showed guts to come back and reverse their record from 2-8 tot 8-2. If we return to the dynasty type program of the 90s the 2020 team will always be special and the one that started it. To do what they did after 2019, one of the lowest points in WB history, was miraculous. But as far as ranking all time WB teams, they may not even be in the top 10 of all time. The EBC was really young and not really a good conference last year and the defense was average at best, giving 58 points in a game is not good, especially against a runinng team. In my opinion they probaby would be behind 6 teams just in the 90s, when the NBC was really good. and the worst record we had in the 90s was 7-3 a couple of times.
1994 (state champs)
1998 (Regional champs lost to a very good Walsh Jesuit in the final minutes)
1991 (first playoff win, loss to Big Red by 1 -probably our most talented team ever)
1990 - See above - lost to lake by a point in play offs.
1992 9-1 only took 4 to playoffs -
1993 9-1 only tood 4 to playofss

You could put the1986 ahead of them - first play off team. Don't get me started on the 70s. 1970s Quaterbacks like Rohaley, Common and Woolf Can you older WB fans imagine what those QBs would do today in the wide open spread. Dick Harztell had those 70's teams playing so fired up and with so much passion in a really good MVC conference. Jim Laut came in the early 80s and stuggled for a few years in the early 80s and developed an offense that was more advanced then the opponents. I really like what Ken Harris is doing, especailly with the offense. It reminds of when laut started getting away from power football and went to the run and shoot.

Sorry to all of you non West Branch fans!! It always fun to debate these things, Can't wait til Friday!!

Yes, 1998 lost opening game Salem and Laut figured it out. They lost to a heavily favored Walsh Jesiut on a late field goal in the state semifinals. Could have easily played for a second state championship. There were some really good teams in the NBC back in the 90s. It looks like the EBC is improving but not like it was then, yet..

Agree, WB, Louisville, Akron Springfield, Minerva, Dover for a while. There were really some good games. This year's WB team is really smooth on offense, I don't know if they have the speed and playmakers to make a really deep run in the playoffs but they do have kids that understand the offense and are very effective. I think the toughest league West Branch was part of was the Mahoning Valley Conference with Poland, Canfield, JFK, Howland, Girard, etc.. in the 1970s
