Wk 1 Walsh Jesuit @ Ursuline

This will be one of the top games in Northeast Ohio to watch, that's for sure.

I think it will come down to the wire, and the winner will prevail by a possession.

WJ has a nice offense with a legit qb. Hopefully the Irish secondary is ready. Both teams should have solid years.

This matchup always sets up to be a nail biter. The '13 and '14 games were decided by seven points combined. I'm sure Thursday will be no exception. Can any Walsh fans provide a summary of their team? I see they have some recruits on their team, as does Ursuline.

Walsh should have a pretty potent offense. Moten returns as QB (1,900 yds, 20 TDs) and has a stellar WR tendem in Parrris (Multiple D1 offers) and Henry. At RB, the have Weaver (1200 yds, 15 TDs) who stepped in after their starter went down with an injury last year. O-line should be solid with a few returning from last year.
Defensive has 6 returning starters, with a solid line and experienced DBs.
Should be a really good opening game for both teams.

Supported a common opponent against Walsh and Ursuline the last two seasons. Padua hung with Walsh in 2022 and was one yard from an upset win in 2023 but got running clock embarrassed by Ursuline the last two seasons. From my narrow view, the two programs aren't comparable. Ursuline in a rout.

I agree. Padua was atrocious last year. I don't know how WJ only beat them by 3 or how they gave up 41 points to them. I don't know if it will be a rout but I do think the Irish win. I can say for sure that they are not taking Walsh lightly.

I would be shocked if either team routed the other. This will prolly be the best qb the Irish see all year. Very excited for this one.
Jaws hopefully the Irish are not taking them lightly because this offense is tough and that would be a huge mistake. Go Irish!

The staff wouldn't allow it. They take NOTHING lightly. Haha

God only knows at this point. Let's face it any predictions are pure conjecture. Walsh has an excellent QB. Ursuline also has a good QB, but size and experience at the position should be a major factor. My prediction is a damn good game.

If Walsh's strength is passing, then I like Ursuline's chances. As we've seen over the last five years, the only teams to beat Ursuline have done so by running the football.

Walsh had two 1,200+ yard rushers last year and their QB rushed for over 700 yards as well. They pass better than most HS teams but are more run heavy overall.
Forgive my ignorance. Just seems that everybody is talking about their passing attack. I've not seen Walsh play since the 2013/14 matchup between the two.

SVSM also a common opponent the last 2 seasons.

Definitely a narrow minded view, for sure!
The Padua game was on the way to a route by WJ before a big rainstorm hit that lead to a couple quick and costly turnovers. Also, Walsh was without a couple major pieces, choosing to rest them for the playoff run. I know guys at Padua as well, and they said that team got exponentially better as the season wore on.
The other two common opponents would tell a better story.
Tonight should be a close, hard-fought game.

Not ignorant at all. Walsh has had 3 different QBs the last 3 seasons who were 2nd Team, HM, and 3rd Team All Ohio. They really were more run heavy last year and return 3 starting OL.

Walsh did lose one of their highest impact players from last season in Brock Sherman. Huge loss - that kid is a true football player. But as some noted here, they return a QB who is a senior now. He is small, but quick and has a solid arm. And doesn't make mistakes. He will eat Ursuline up unless they can get in his face. But if he has time, forget about it because he has good receivers and he is a threat to run as well. While I'm certainly not suggesting that Ursuline play dirty, they need to hit him legally as often and as hard as they can. If they don't, they will lose.
