Today at the GMC meet, we only saw 4 non Mason runners under 17:00.

How is a conference with some of the biggest schools in the state of Ohio this bad at Cross-Country?

It’s not just the GMC. Look at the GCL results. Not one runner from Elder, LaSalle or Moeller broke 17:00. St. X would have scored a perfect 15 if they would have run their best 5 in the varsity race.

Maybe it’s not always about the size of the school?
👏🏽 if a high school coach simply coaches whoever shows up they are doomed. To build a winning program they have to be a first class recruiter in the building. They have to sell the sport, sell the hard work and be an inspiration. Kids that never considered CC can carry a team to the state meet if the right leader is in place. Once they get the program rolling then the numbers can help. That being said, I’d love to know the story behind Lakota West coming from nowhere winning D1 then disappearing again.

I just saw the GMC boys results, and that gap is stunning. Mason is incredibly good, and it's right at the time some of the other teams have bottomed out. Mason had 19 of the top 26 finishers in the league. If Mason had entered only its freshmen in the varsity race, they still would have won. If Mason had tried to evenly balance their top 30-40 runners, they could have had 5 or 6 teams that would have beaten all the other schools. Incredible.

My understanding with West is that they had a group of seniors that all bought in and made a commitment to each to the process and the goal.
They trained all summer long and did all the little things with a high commitment.

It's a bit eye opening the results. Not really any coaching changes that I know of other than East. Looks to me like the ECC is a better XC conference right now.

There is a wave of sickness going around right now, but I would imagine that evens our for everyone.

ECC has been outperforming GMC boys the last several years. Proved it again today at Districts.
