If you are only scoring 10 points a game with low yardage numbers, whats the point in the complexity? Seems like the only people you are fooling are your own players. Play simple, play fast.
Of course last name has something to do with it. Kirk didn't get a house in Cincy and move his kid into the area so he could sit behind someone else.Name has little if anything to do with it. There are plenty of kids with recognized last names that come through X that don't see the field.
Believe what you want. Herbstreit got benched last year at times, and if Specht or Coverdale think someone else is better, they'll bench him again. They did the same with PJ Rose the past couple years, and Al Golden's grandson is on the bench this year.Of course last name has something to do with it. I'm not saying Herbstreit isn't good, or is or isn't struggling..... I haven't seen him play this season. He looked good last year when he went in during the Elder game last year.
But make no mistake.....When your extremely high profile, nationally recognized father takes a private jet to see your high school game each week, he 100% expects him to be on the field, period.
I never said X wouldn't be fine if he left.Believe what you want. Herbstreit got benched last year at times, and if Specht or Coverdale think someone else is better, they'll bench him again. They did the same with PJ Rose the past couple years, and Al Golden's grandson is on the bench this year.
X was fine before Chase Herbstreit got there, will be fine if he decides to transfer. What do they get out of having him as QB aside from his talent? They already have plenty of local and national respect for their program. The tuition money that the family is paying is helpful to the school.
Not sure how large the endowment is. But I’m sure it’s quite largeIsn't their 'endowment fund' over $100 MILLION with a Goal of $200 MILLION ?
Nichols is the full time safety, 2nd in tackles, 1st in tackles for loss and interceptionsThe Withrow passing attack features three 4 star receivers
Withrow receivers through 3 games (receptions, yards)
Chris Henry 13 for 193 (14.8 ypc) and 1 TD (4 star Ohio State commit)
Quintin Simmons 8 for 187 (23.3 ypc) and 2 TDs (4 star, 17 D1 offers)
Dantrell Moses 14 for 169 (12.1 ypc) and 2 TDs
Myles Rochelle 6 for 92 (15.3 ypc) and 2 TDs
Kristian Bonner 6 for 52 yards (8.7 ypc) and 1 TD
Teryhon Nichols 3 for 41 yards (13.7 ypc) and 1 TD (4 star Kentucky commit)
So this century, X played 2 Cincinnati Public Schools: Western Hills in 2000 (X won) and Withrow in 2001 (X won 42-14)I'm curious, when is the last time a GCL team (LaSalle, Moe, Elder, X) lost to a Cincinnati Public?
They do not schedule one another often, so I'm not even sure if it has happened this century.
200 year anniversary*Not sure how large the endowment is. But I’m sure it’s quite large
The current campaign is to raise $200 mil
By 2031….the 100 year anniversary
It was kicked off by a $50 million lead gift from a donor who made other substantial gifts in the past
Yup. Sorry for the typo200 year anniversary*
All are Cincy public schools but many were in different leagues throughout the years. I know Aiken was part of the defunct Metro County Conference in the middle 80's.So this century, X played 2 Cincinnati Public Schools: Western Hills in 2000 (X won) and Withrow in 2001 (X won 42-14)
Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference (X leads 57-29-10)
Aiken: 13 games; 1976-80, 1983-88, 1990-91; X leads 9-2-2
Hughes: 14 games; 1930-33, 1945-48, 1950-55; X trails 6-7-1
Taft: 8 games; 1972-79; X leads 8-0
Western Hills: 12 games; 1930, 1949-50, 1960-61, 1989-1994, 2000; X leads 8-1-3
Withrow: 29 games; 1936, 1938-39, 1945-1967, 1994-95, 2001; X leads 14-13-3
Woodward: 20 games; 1933-34, 1942, 1946-47, 1954, 1958-59, 1962-63, 1970-75, 1978-79, 1987-88; X leads 12-7-1
Defunct
Central (Courter Tech): 7 games; 1951-54, 1957, 1960-61; X leads 5-2
It would be interesting to see this further broken down into won/loss by each decade. I'm guessing a lot of St. X losses came in the 1930 to 1970 timeframe. So this century, X played 2 Cincinnati Public Schools: Western Hills in 2000 (X won) and Withrow in 2001 (X won 42-14)

Thats Al Goldens son not his grandsonBelieve what you want. Herbstreit got benched last year at times, and if Specht or Coverdale think someone else is better, they'll bench him again. They did the same with PJ Rose the past couple years, and Al Golden's grandson is on the bench this year.

StX doesn't need more brand recognition. It is already viewed as one of the top HS Football programs in the area, as one of top academic schools in the country, and they have plenty of money. I can't think of one kid Herbstreit helped bring into StX. Almost every kid in his class was already committed to StX before any of them knew he was coming and most of the better athletes in the grade below him are rock stars in other sports.I never said X wouldn't be fine if he left.
X has a lot to possibly gain from Herbstreit..... more brand recognition to your program first off. This game was talked about on Pat McAfee's podcast yesterday, and Herbstreit being at X has been talked about on there multiple times, as well as featured on College Game Day, and other segments on ESPN. That's a lot of FREE publicity.
I'm not saying it happened, but Herbstreit could be donating money or bringing in more donors to X as a school and football program.
I'm also going to go out a limb and say Herbstreit has brought in other players. Whenever a big name player ends up on a team, other talent follows..... Look at Withrow, Winton Woods, Lakota West, Princeton, etc.
So Herbstreit being there brings a lot actually.
Again, I'm not suggesting there has been anything nefarious or any type of favoritism. All I said was Herbstreit expects his kid to play, which is 100% the truth. That's not a dig on anyone or anything.
When you are trying to raise your endowment to 200 million, you will take any increase in brand recognition you can get.....especially the free kind among nationally recognized high rollers with lots of influence among other deep pocketed individuals.StX doesn't need more brand recognition. I don't think you understand the culture at StX. They don't care what your name is or where you are from. Specht doesn't recruit kids because he doesn't have to. He plays the numbers game. He knows he will have 95 to 110 freshmen football players every season and he is banking on "X" amount of them to be really good players.
Honestly, this is probably why Herbstreit is at StX. His dad understands the culture and knows his son can go there without getting any special treatment.

I understand the culture at X perfectly well...... Money talks there. I never said Specht recruited kids. And I never said Specht gave special treatment to Herbstreit. All I said was Herbstreit brought him to X to PLAY, not sit behind someone as a junior.
People
You're right. 200 mil is easy without appealing nationally.I seriously doubt you have any knowledge of how X operates. They don't need Herbstreit to come to X; they already have name recognition and a lot of alumni, the people who are going to donate to X.
St. X is a great school and obviously a great opportunity for a student athlete but you're just making this up. They play the game just like Moeller, Lakota West, and everybody else who is competing for regional titles. I know of multiple athletes who were made promises by St. X as incoming freshman and I don't have any close connection with X. Nothing wrong with it, par for the course.StX doesn't need more brand recognition. $90million; they already had $110 million; maybe the X graduate running for President can donate some from his fortune. You're right. 200 mil is easy without appealing nationally.
Isn't that.....ahem....national exposure?$90million; they already had $110 million; maybe the X graduate running for President can donate some from his fortune.
Isn't that.....ahem....national exposure?
I hope you are not a an X grad.
Maybe Herbstreit would consider donating if his son went to X? Quite common for parents of students/recent alumni to donate if their child had a good experience. Just spitballing here.Donations come from persons who already have a connection to X; not some random person across the US.
No one is going to donate to X because Ramaswamy is an X grad; just as no one is going to donate to X because Herbstreit's son goes to X.
I know several of the StX coaches, had two sons and two nephews play at StX. Three of them started and one was a primary backup and played a lot. None of them or any of their friends were ever recruited or promised playing time by anyone. Here is how StX talks to kids about sports: kid does a shadow day at StX. At some point he will talk to a coach or coaches of the sports he in interested in playing. Specht tells them how the program is run and that is it. He even talks about it this stuff to parents after their son is in the program in front of everyone. He is very open about how he communicates with his athletes. If anything parents are often very frustrated by the lack of promises or commitments that Specht will make to players.St. X is a great school and obviously a great opportunity for a student athlete but you're just making this up. It is real easy. The Long Blue Line is one of the best networking and associations any individual can have in the Cincinnati area. One donor already gave $50MM to get the campaign going and StX has stated their goal is for the school to become tuition free by 2032 for every student. It is really hard to understand the networking and association at StX unless you or your son have graduated from the school. You're right. 200 mil is easy without appealing nationally.
This may be the rule but if the kid is deemed good enough it gets broken. Thinking otherwise is naive.I know several of the StX coaches, had two sons and two nephews play at StX. Phew, they gotta be hoping that lunatic drops out soon and everybody forgets him. Not a good look for the men for others.$90million; they already had $110 million; maybe the X graduate running for President can donate some from his fortune.
