Veteran Findlay Boys Basketball Coach To Retire

Seems like 2 of those were just practicing their interview skills. No doubt Roth is serious though.
From what has been going around it sounds like Sweet is in-line to take the job. Gallaway was offered but turned it down. Roth was interviewed twice but was third in consideration. Sweet will be the next head coach.

It appears Sweet has a couple of days to provide FHS with an answer on the offer. If he declines it appears he would be the third to do so. They've had a great, long run of success but things may be different in the near future.

Sweet has been rumored to have turned the job down. Onto the next candidate in line.......

If Roth is offered the job he'll take it. Apparently the only serious applicant
I expect Roth to take it if he's next, but that doesn't mean he's been the only serious candidate. The coach in a way "interviews" the school or learns about the school and the dynamics of the program. Sometimes when you learn more you decide it's not the right fit. But I'd say it is highly unusual to have 3 or 4 candidates be offered and ultimately, say no.

Fair point.

I wouldn't be so sure about this. From talking with a few people, there have been some rumors that he wasn't very pleased with the process and how things have gone.
I'm sure he isn't happy with the process. Three others offered and they turned it down. At least he knows the school and the program very well, so he knows what the pros and cons would be for him. Really not a basketball great post-season in the Flag City.

From what I had heard, he lives in the community, which should help Findlay. But I have heard he's not pleased that he was pushed down the line of options.

This could be very telling about what they are finding out during their interview process.

1. The district is in some level of financial difficulty. 2. The next couple of years appear to be really challenging for the basketball program, with the top 7 or 8 players all graduating or not otherwise expected to play. FHS completely not used to that. Both of those things a candidate should know before even applying. 3. It's possible there is not a teaching position or staff position available for a particular candidate, who wouldn't necessarily know that going into the process. Regardless, possibly an unprecedented situation (3 offered and no coach yet).

If those are true about FHS, a good coach applying would know about the basketball information. A good educator would learn if there were positions open during the first interview and would not have to go back for a second and then receive an offer before turning it down. Shelby is losing 90% of it's scoring and rebounding so for the basketball it could be a lateral move.

I will say offering the position to 3 applicants to have them all turn it down is not a good look and says something negative about FHS that is being discovered during the application/interview process. I assume.
