URSULINE & MOONEY PROJECTIONS/DISCUSSIONS 2024

Another factor will be rivalry incentives (bragging rights) for both players and fans. My understanding is that Boardman & Fitch games vs. Glen Oak, Perry, Jackson etc. played to sparse stadiums (according to friends at both schools). I'm not 100% on that and much rides on how individual schools are faring. But it is hard to envision Youngstown kids getting too excited because one of the Columbus schools is coming to town.
I can tell you unequivocally that the kids are excited about being in this league. Even the ones who will have graduated before it starts up. Remember, the Irish are playing 5 of 7 other teams in the league this season and they are really looking forward to going to Columbus this year.

I would be very happy to be wrong about this. Just thinking out loud... I wish only the best for our two Catholic schools. I actually attended the Irish game at Watterson a few years back (small but boisterous Ursuline crowd). I saw all 3 Mooney vs. St. X games as well as Ursuline at Moeller in the '80s/'90s. These games were competitive and exciting and the Irish & Cards represented our area very well. Mooney actually won all three games against the Bombers. Knowing the Moeller coach personally he told me that the bus ride back to Cincy from the Ursuline loss was deafening. The team voted Youngstown Ursuline as their toughest opponent two years in a row.

Will the fan base travel? The Ursuline-Alter at Dayton BB semi-final had a small crowd from Youngstown. (Back in the '80s Mooney at St. X saw more Y-towners than Cincinnati fans on North Bend Road. Ursuline at Moeller we even brought our band. But that was a very different time.) I hope that it all works out. I know this kind of travel got old for the Spartans and the Falcons real fast. (Although having to fill only 3 non-league games will be nice.)

An interesting preview of sorts... SVSM tentative '26 schedule:

Week 1 Nordonia
Week 2 Open
Week 3 @Hudson
Week 4 Cardinal Mooney
Week 5 @VASJ
Week 6 @ DeSales
Week 7 @ Ursuline
Week 8 Bishop Hartley
Week 9 Bishop Watterson
Week 10 @ Walsh

Only 1 trip to Columbus which isn't bad, but that's a pretty tough schedule.
There's been talk of SVSM renewing the rivalry with Hoban.

Any line on projections for Mooney & Ursuline schedule wise for next year or '26?
In '24 the Ursuline Irish face everyone (5 of 7) in the new conference except Watterson & DeSales. That will probably increase in '25.
I think the green & gold visits Death Valley (Steubby) in '25. Unless that's changed.

Any word on how the Irish did at the 7/7 tourney?
They did really well. They lost to Canton McKinley in the championship by a touchdown on the last play of the game. The line dominated the big man challenge as well only losing the tug of war at the end. Overall the Irish had a great showing against some really good competition. Teams like Glenville, Cleve Hts, Lakota East, etc are no joke.

Thought that y'all might be interested in this read...

With scrimmages set to kick off across Ohio this week, here's a look at 40 opposing players that Warren G. Harding fans will need to watch out for this season.

The athletes analyzed all meet at least one of the following requirements...

A) They were an All-Conference, County, District, or State selection in 2023.
B) They have at least one FBS scholarship offer.
C) They have a previous standout performance against Harding.

NOTE- The opinions given are strictly mine and don't necessarily reflect the thoughts of anybody within Harding's football program.

Great stuff! Keep up the good woork. Go Irish!

Besides balog who else will contribute in the Irish backfield?
I think it will be a little RB by committee this year. Boudrey and Frangos will be in the mix plus there is a ton of younger talent at RB.

The Irish head over to Ellet tomorrow morning at 10am to take on Akron East in the first scrimmage of the year. I'm excited to see how we look.

How did the Irish scrimmage with Akron East turn out?
Pretty good. The Irish were a little sloppy at time and had a couple of turnovers but looked good overall. The defense played really well and caused a few turnovers themselves, including a pretty spectacular interception by D. Will. Hard to believe he hasn't played football the last few years. He is going to be a difference maker.

Crazy to think week 1 is next week! Does anybody know if the Ursuline/Walsh game will be streamed? I saw WKBN is having a voting poll on three games, but none of them are the Ursuline game.

It should be on tv. I think the poll is for the froday games.
