SVSM Irish 2024

Congrats to Coach Grant on his first win!!! Takes the team on the road and comes back with the W. Great way to start the season.

Final 21-14
I wish I knew last night you were posting updates. I was following on X. Very happy for the kids and coaches.

I didn’t know whether they’d win or not. What I was interested in was the motivation and commitment from the kids. Something we didn’t see last season. That rested with the coaches, had they gotten the kids to buy in. That was answered. The team played four quarters to preserve the win. Congratulations to all.

Bingo, SYS.

I know it is an extremely small sample size - but that was a good start to getting the program headed back in the right direction.

To go on the road an hour away to face a tough team in an iconic high school stadium is.....

Impressive.

On to Perry in week 2.

Can someone who’s at the Perry game explain the 15 minute timeout Perry got at the 1:53 mark of the 2nd qtr? There was no injured player on the field. The team was huddled on their sideline and the Irish were waiting at the line of scrimmage. There is no announcer for the stream to give an explanation.

Kid threw up on field..

Uninspiring performance by the Irish. The only offense I saw was the long pass to the Perry eleven in the first half. Fifteen yard penalty put it back on the eighteen. They turned it over on downs at the seven. After that the defense was on the field too much. I’ll be interested in seeing how many first downs the Irish had. Single digits?

Congratulations to Perry. They played a very good game. Pushed St V all over the field after the first quarter.

Good game highlights here

obviously disappointing loss, you never want to get blown out on your own field. Two games in though defense has been pretty good despite only giving up 17 points last night they are giving up 15.5 ppg that’s a great recipe for success right there. On the other hand offensively wayyyy too many mistakes and given the kids inexperienced I knew it was gonna show sooner or later. Our offense is only scoring 10.5 ppg that is NOT a great recipe for success and I know this Coach Davis first year and he met his match with Coach Wakefield

Wakefield? I thot Slates was the HC

I missed the game because my son is a coach at a D-5 school in Wayne County, but I understand it was a hard fought contest. Perry does return 8 starters on both sides of the ball and that probably made a difference along with Wakefield changing the defense around.
Best of luck to the Irish the rest of the season.

Defense give up about 300 yds rushing, no pretty good?

Who played QB? Who should play QB?
Ok, you’ve been fishing for this all year, so the answer is Fielding. He is and should be the starting QB this year. They lost their 2 best returning QB’s (two who would have returned for this year) last year and this year and this young man has stepped up and although not the most dynamic, with the right play calling scheme, he can do the job with what they have. He is the best QB they have.

He is the DC. Davis is the SVSM OC.

Patience Irish fans. This is a year of transition that will come with many ups and downs.
Tell that to the senior parents, who have endured 3 coaches in 4 years. Their entire high school careers have be a 'year of transition'.

Kind of sounds like a Browns fan - wait until next year...

I mean, I agree there is going to be struggle through transition. But it doesn't make it okay to simply throw a year away, either.

Where exactly did I say it's a throw away season?
