St. Edward vs. Archbishop Hoban

Yeah, not sure why the Hoban fan brought Massillon into the conversation
Please head back to your safe haven Massillon thread where you can bask in all your glory and you dont have to worry about anyone saying anything negative about Massillon or you get blocked from the thread. There are state champion programs talking football over here.

I guess we just need to agree to disagree. You are ok with Hoban vs. Ed's week 10. I would think it would be in the best interest of both teams to play it between weeks 1-5, if possible. Great back and forth. Valid points on both sides.
Good luck on Friday. I plan on tuning in to the live stream.

They wouldn’t beat Ed’s on a neutral field. Let’s be real here. Hoban will crush Massillon like they always do in the playoffs, just watch.
Massillon to much for Hoban this year. Way to much!!! Thats facts. Now another match up with St. Eds be another story. Eds is healthy. Just knocked off Moeller.

Seems odd to see the 2 most dominant programs in D1 and D2 with the deepest rosters dont want to get beat up. How about every single one of your opponents? Lol. I guess just sit out who you want to sit out, so they can be prepared to run clock their next 3 hopeless opponents. 🙂

Is Moeller supposed to be good? I see they lost to too many teams from out of state. IMO that would make them not very good. Getting blown out at home vs Ben Davis is just a terrible look.

You do know that Massillon is the only school in the state that is getting almost 9k fans per game in a stadium that seats 16,000. What is the name of St Ed's stadium? How many fans per game does Hoban bring? Massillon has 3000k season ticket holders. More than any other school in the state and more than The University of Akron, Toledo and Kent State. I'm new here, and this is only my 2nd post but felt the need to reply to you. Get a life.

I think that Hoban fans will take a dynastic run of real life championships over having the most season ticket holders and banners from the 1940s and '50s in their trophy cases. We get it, football is life down there, hooray for your fan support, but I find it quite ironic that someone that's as invested in high school football can tell someone else to get a life. What some consider passionate loyalty, a lot of others find it to be obnoxiously off putting and annoying. I'm from Akron, I want to see Hoban win, although I think that Massillon is the best team in the state this year. I'd love to see them finally win one, but I can't root for them because of some of their fans. They're unbearable without having won it all, I can't imagine what they'll be like when they do. How my brother has worked down there for almost 25 years without snapping on someone is beyond me.

I feel like there is no right or wrong answer to when they should play. As a fan with no dog in this fight I would love to see this game earlier and watch both teams throw the kitchen sink at each other. I also understand its very hard for two paroichal schools that dont have a conference to get games late in the season. Both have been battle tested (Hoban is just THAT good) so no they dont need this game to be ready for mid November. The timing of the game kinda just it what it is.

Now saying all that I think this game still will have a LOT of juice. You might not get the Xs and Os but you are still going to have elite athletes matching up against each other. That always mean something. Like somebody else said already, its gonna turn into a street fight

I love the game. 8 years ago this game wouldn't happen. St Eds has over 650 boys and a CB of over 500 for a total of almost 1200. Hoban has 335 boys and a CB of 190 for 525 total. Both fan base's enjoy the rivalry and have a lot of family connections and history. I wish it was earlier in the season but with no conference to play or anyone else local, games are hard to come by. Good luck to both teams and fanbases

I think your selling Hoban short. Massillon may beat them but they are way too much for them. I don't think so. I've seen both teams play. They are both really talented and good.

Without the prospect of a playoff rematch in a matter of weeks, there really is no reason to hold anything back in this game in terms of play calling. That was one of the motivating factors to move the Holy War back to week 7, where it had been played for many years.

With everything both programs have already achieved, I'd think this is as much for bragging rights as yet another state championship would be. Yes? No? Who is the Best Team in Ohio???

For many years Massillon and McKinley dealt with the "week 11 hangover". So I get it. But that was well before expanded playoffs when both were D1 powers and facing good week 11 foes. Today that is not really an issue. In fact it helps imo.

I think the 2020 Hoban beatdown of Eds is still fresh in Lombardo's mind. That was a very embarrassing game for Eds. And I'm also sure Tyrrell isn't very happy about the last two years. Eds has something to prove and Hoban has their perfect season to lose. So I do think we are going to see a competitive game tomorrow.
Hard to believe Ed and Hoban are so related. Their fans are very different.
The other Holy Cross school in the area is Gilmour, which makes Eds and Hoban both look like the forgotten stepchild.

Fwiw, after the Massillon game last year, Coach Tyrell said losing the St. Ed game worked in their favor, and Massillon defeating St. Ed worked against them. Idk that's just what he said. I know some St. Ed fans feel like losing to Massillon worked in their favor. I think his point being that it is hard to stay undefeated for 16 weeks.

What I make of it is: Hindsight is 20/20. ;) Seriously Idk if it is ever good to lose, but when you do, you make the most of it I guess.

I still believe that if Eds didn't lose to Massillon last year they wouldn't have won the title. That loss humbled the team (I think they thought they would walk to back-to-back titles) and they thankfully used it as motivation the rest of the way. They had a few close calls before the Massillon game, and then starting crushing teams after. I hope the same is true this year.

I tend to agree with Tyrrell. It's not always good to lose but sometimes high school teams need a good humbling to reach their real potential and there's always the pressure of being the undefeated team, it's another reason the other team wants to beat you.

For the inevitable Massillon/Hoban game, I'll hold on my prediction until after tomorrow. Massillon as a team is better this year IMO. I've watched some Hoban games but can't really get a good read on them.

They are above average and have improved throughout the season. Their defense struggles early in the films I saw, but they have the best RB in the state.

I never knew Indiana to historically have great high school football....hoops yes....but football?
Football in Indiana means typically schools in the Indianapolis area. There are some outliers such as East Central, a couple of Ft. Wayne schools, Penn, etc. the primary difference between the two states is school size. Schools in the Public conferences around Indy are huge. Most in the 3-5000 student range. East Central is only a 4A school in Indiana but would be 1A in Ohio and this year in particular would make a very good showing in that class. The privates in the Indy area such as Cathedral, Roncalli, Bishop Chatard, Lutheran, etc. typically all punch WAY above their weight class and schedule accordingly.

Smoove think it may matter for how many peoples attend the game. IT allow Massillon MO' MONEY to pay those officials.....:sneaky::oops:🤨
Smoove love to get into Tiger-fans paws with Smoove's commentations. Smoove also from Summit County-region and like Summit to win championships, BUT want to see great games along the trail. Should Mass and Hoban meet up, which Smoove believes it an inevitabilitation, it might be EPIC and Smoove can set up a Concessionation Stand servin' some Adult Beverations and we can all just have a big ol' GOOD TIME!!

Also, Smoove believe Tigerbeat just comin' around to ruffle some panties. In the infamous words of Mr. T: "I pity the Fool!..." Well, Smoove pitifies the fool that believe those commentations. And e'erone know that don't matter how many peeps show up for Massillon game, they gonna play hard and the officals get paid and fed WELL!!!!😏;)

Has Hoban had to throw the ball at all this year because of an opponent stacking the box or shutting down the run? What kind of passing yards are they getting per game. My guess is with OL you can pretty much run over most of the teams on the schedule. Ed's is tough against the run. If Hoban has to start throwing the ball, Can they?

Sure they’re above average but not elite by any means. You just cannot lose to teams from Indiana and EVER be considered a TOP Ohio team. At least St Ed’s blew out Indianas best team to start the season.

Not sure about stats but the young QB has thrown successfully. Definitely can pull it down and run if needed. WR cook has D1 offers but they haven't had to throw too much. I agree they will need to throw enough to keep Ed's honest but weather may prevent that from happening. Hoban is probably better defensively against the pass or run than Ed's but the Ed's QB will be the difference. If he is able to play at 100% and runt the RPO it could be a long evening for the Knights.
