Delphos St. Johns is playing the Tygers for the first time this year. I write a short history of the opponent and previous matchups for each Blue Jays game. I know nothing about Mansfield Senior except last year's schedule and results. Can someone help out with some history of Mansfield Tygers boys basketball and an outlook on the season? A roster would be fantastic although I know it's early. I'm having back surgery January 2 and 3 and will be done for the year so I'm trying to get them all done before then. Thanks!!
This is after your back surgery (good luck with that), but I figure you seem like a big enough fan of the Blue Jays to appreciate the insight here.
Mansfield has a freshman, Kaylen Brooks who is making some noise right now. He's averaging around 15-18ppg that I'm aware of at this point in the year. Looks like he's a good 3pt shooter.
Their other main impact player is Kyevi Roane, a senior.
Mansfield basketball has taken a bit of a dip in recent years (which coincides very conveniently with their recent successes in football), but their team last year and this year are shaping up to the Mansfield of old.
They tend to schedule up pretty aggressively when they can. They have traveled far for games and don't seem to mind getting a huge loss if it means they can walk away knowing what "good" looks like on a higher level. Over the past few decades, they've had series with Dayton Dunbar, SVSM, Trotwood-Madison, Lima Senior, Bishop Hartley, and a few of the big Columbus suburbs.
Mansfield has had upset potential in our area during the state tournament for quite some time. Against Shelby in the District Semis last year, they made a point to disrupt eventual D2 POTY Alex Bruskotter with hard boxouts and extra fouls. It nearly worked.
