UCONN has lost some games this year, looking at them now it's almost inconceivable that they could have not only lost some ballgames at all but get humbled beaten up and had their lunch money stolen by Creighton in Omaha by 19 and handled by 15 in New Jersey by Seton Hall, a team that didn't even make it into the Tourney. They also lost by 4 at Kansas. Peaking late? Wel not really seeing as they got a good game from Providence late in the year, they pushed out at the end to get a late cover, and on March15th they barely got by St Johns another team that wasn't included to play in the Dance. Yesterday they won and covered again for us as I had this one at no closer than 12, in other words it would have taken me about + 13.5-14 to even consider taking the Illini.
It closed at 8.5 and for a bit not unlike the SDSU game it was an actual fight. 23-23 later in the first half with Illinois not looking out of place. A late 5-point lead and a bad last Illini possession in the first half kept it at 5 as they went to the Lockeroom's. A 5-point late 1st half burst became a surreal 30-0 burst that occurred, not against a Longwood, or a Wagner who may not have the guys to deal with such focused ferocity in terms of getting a good look or the ability to get a good shot off and just quiet if not for a few seconds the relentless Huskies. This was freaking Illinois, a Bonafide bucket of a team, wo was explosive, and possessing NBA level ballers with proven ability to score the ball against very good athletes.
Mercy. UCONN is the one team without a real weakness or even a minor disability really and if the Red Army Russian National hockey team the Big Red Machine of the 80's and early 90's of the being 'Housed" in Army barracks 10 months a year training 3 times a day had played hoops? This is how they would go about it. They are coached hard, well and play with not only intense desire and intensity but with a controlled efficiency that is difficult to play against and tough to prepare for. Of the bracket I am still alive in to make some dough in out of three, I have the Huskies winning over Purdue. Had the Huskies winning in two of them. Duke going to the final four as well. If Purdue and Duke lose, that entry is toast.
UCONN was a nice easy winner shortly after the second half started but wasn't so fortunate with Clemson getting 3.5 vs. Alabama who is making their first final four appearance. Been a really good last month overall, and the tourney has been good, but Bama held in well with a 5-7 -9-point edges down the stretch settling at 7. Had a Peanut on the OVER which got there by a handful.
Coaches will often say the toughest game to win and get by in is the elite 8 level because of the enormity of getting to a promised land of sorts in CBB which is of course the final four. To most of even the most rabid fan bases and coaches' expectations, getting to the final four cannot be called a disappointing season for just about everyone. Purdue on the ML at - 160 was good value IMO and I think as tough as Tennessee was on defense in the second half as we thought they may be, Creighton isn't put together like Purdue obviously. The Big guy should get his today[ 22 point total prop}} as UT hasn't a good answer individually and the way Purdue is shooting the ball and playing with confidence , should make them pay if they use too much of their resources on limiting the Big fella.
The numbers are so sharp with so few games left the value is measured in tiny, microscopic grains most of the time. NC State is the only real feel good underdog story left in the tourney the last week. 5 in a row in a week's time to sneak into the dance, and then 3 wins in a row and on a momentous 7-0 straight up as a dog run. 9-3-1 ATS last 13 as a dog. Gets to 7.5 and the Wolfpack seem like a good value at this point. Some tweaks to the lineup and some guys playing more than they did in the first 60-70 percent of the season has made this a different animal for teams to deal with and the results and confidence gained is beyond impressive. Will the clock strike midnight? It didn't in 83 a season that culminated in the Wolfpack taking down a Houston team with many Pro's and a couple NBA hall of famers with the late Jimmy V running around looking for someone to hug. This team brings up that 83 run often and is dedicating this run to that special team. Sometimes there is just something in the air. Duke is better and this run has to end sometime you would think , but hopefully it's a run comes to a close with a loss of 7 or less points.
