Dublin Coffman 2024

In terms of not having a weak performance, OSU and Texas are the best two teams in CFB. They look like the two best eye test wise as well . Leaning OSU by a TD over Oregon . Great slate of games the next two weeks .

Notable Louie Line.

Davidson -21 over Coffman- Rocks defense has improved a bit . Enough emotional energy off of two close losses ? Rocks unlike a few other occasions down one score coming back late got the stop and the ball back with a chance to tie . Didn’t catch the punt and had to start deep in their own territory . Threw a lollipop prayer down the sideline that had been answered. previously. It was picked off and probably could have been returned for six but the kid took a knee with the clock situation and no Rocks TO’s. Smart play

Coming off of last year's best record ever vs. the Louie Line, the record stands at a very modest 35- 31 mark as we head to week 8 in this cold weather football state . Game time temp late in the reg. season will be about 70 degrees. Unreliable injury info is a constant but not having the raw numbers of digital scout has hurt a bit no doubt. CFB and the NFL have been really solid the last couple weeks. Getting into a rhythm that took a bit of time.

Week 8 Louie Lines

Massive spreads is the crux of the week 8 matter. Orange vs. UA is the game of the week. Orange is favored by a point. UA got the Liberty two year monkey off of their backs with a pay back comeback after losing leads the last two seasons vs. the Patriots.

Big Nut - 7 Westy North fighting Jacksons

WN is not really progressing as some thought they may. Kind of MEH. Old friend former Coffman DC Crager is doing a nice job up there at Big Nut. Leaning BW here to keep it going .. Really sharp Line Louie, nice work .

Delaware Rutherford - 30 Scioto-

Coaches know when the time comes to leave. Morrison at Westy Central stepped down adn WC has won just a few ballgames after he left. It was said by the resident self proclaimed expert areshole here he stepped down for personal reasons family responsibilities blah blah. Well he took no time off from coaching and stepped in at Liberty and it's worked out as the OC. White left when he knew it wasn't going to be the same. Nice club they have over there at Davidson this season no question. But it hasn't been the same and the year after White left was akin to Coffman 2021. Crabtree knew when it was time to go and that it wasn't going to be the same again. He was right. It hasn't been and isn't. Karl Johnson steps down and the ship has sunk . Dublin Football at an all time low. Probably take the Irish here but holding my nose.

Gahanna - 39 Westy C -

These lines are an indication of decline in some programs. WC is a prime example. Darby Coffman and Westy C not too long ago were consistently year after year good. Those days are gone. Pfff lie a fart in the wind. Drifting out to sea with no timetable for a return to previous consistency. Can WC stay within 40? Probably shouldn't pick a side here but include it to make the point that NOTHING lasts forever. WC is one of the best venues to watch a game whether it's football soccer or anything. Football program at an all time low.

Marysville - 28 YOTW -

Monarchs were a hurting team until they beat up the Country Clubbers a couple weeks ago. They then played Olentangy fairly well losing by 'only" 16 points. Monarchs laying 28 is kind of absurd. The Ye Olders lost by 29 to Berlin. I would guess that the Winless Tommy W's would think they may have a shot here despite the Louie disrespect. Can't see the Ye Olde Cards wining but a 4 TD head start?

New Albany - 29 Central Crossing -

Comets have been playing a brutal schedule the last month. Been outscored by UA Gahanna , Pick North, and Tangy by a combined 141- 6. NA I thought was coming on a bit and then taking 23 wasn't enough when they got blown up by Gahanna 41-6 . Seems a bit heavy.

Olentangy - 25 at Darby-

Panthers are winless. They smell possible victory the last two week vs. YOTW and Marysville. Not masking the play-offs in this day and age is total failure. It just is . Darby has a 15 percent chance of getting into the 16 team regional invitational. Ouch. Probably shouldn't play this game.

Berlin - 21 at Dub Muirfield CC -

Jerome took out their wounded ego after Marysville debacle out on the winless Darby Panthers. Another loss for me vs. Louie. The real question is where is El Daud going to pre-game?

Liberty - 32 Bradley -

Jags were as overrated as a team can be pre-season. They will be good again in a couple years most likely. Liberty off the UA gut punch may take no mercy? Jags were a no show vs. Davidson . They lost by exactly 32 to the Cats. Can they not give up 40 here?

Orange - 1 UA -

UA coming on a bit , IF Orange plays like they did vs. Coffman ? They lose. Period. They won't get the big play running away saunters into the end zone scores this week as they and others do to the Rocks on a regular basis . This is the GOTW.

Pick Central - 18 Groveport Mad.

Grovers lost to Burg by a point as a 25 Pt. Favorite. Rock bottom? PC will get their juices flowing but can they actually compete and slow down the Tigers? They have before . Not sure if they can again.

Pick North - 7 at Grove City

GC signature win vs. Westland? Say that out loud a few years ago and you have a bad football team. PN will hammer this team this week.

Mighty Wetland - 4 Westy SIB -

Ibbies can play with this team. 4 is a great number. Props to Mr. Pasteur.

Harry, as a SWO kid, I would always look forward to Dublin games to go to LaRosas, which sadly has now closed. But something about the quality of their ingredients is off relative to 20 years ago, so not that surprising I guess. In all honesty, I'm giving serious consideration to going to Orange/UA instead, as it's a fascinating matchup.

Been saying all year WNorth isn't the team ppl thought they were, I expect BigNut to win this game, but Westland presents a bigger test for them most likely. Also just noticed that R7 has been significantly weakened by the removal of some of the NEO/Stark teams like Green and Hoover. Nut has an extremely soft region until they face the looming running clock vs Mass but I will also say my money is on SFDS in a playoff matchup, having seen both teams play.

Pick North should win by multiple scores over GC and finally get them pushed down in R3 where they belong, not much else is interesting on this slate this week. W10 should be fun, but feels like a lull until playoffs.

Correct on Big Walnut - they should handle WN easily actually. Watched them both play watty, Walnut game a good game and WN folded quickly. BW well coached and they are a disciplined group. WN ---- not so much although they have a few stud athletes.

OSU - 3 at Oregon is the play, as fundamentally, the Ducks could be susceptible to getting run on . Boise probably should have won in Eugene and ran pretty wild on the Ducks front. OSU may be able to establish some of this with their talented backs. This will open up some other things and the Ducks haven't seen this level of defensive team as well . They will be running their stuff against a different animal and will take timie to adjust. Bucks play somewhat clean they win by a TD or so.

Got Pitt one of the biggest surprise teams in the country - 2.5 over Cal . Cal took that gut punch losing a 25 point lead and losing in brutal fashion 39-38 with Miami's furious comeback. Went to bed knowing I was covering the 10.5 with Cal who has bene a great underdog play for a while now with Wilcox. But was shocked to see them lose. Miami OVER season win total looks very good.

Washington has bene playing for 7 straight weeks without rest. Traveled East to Rutgers, outplayed them badly { + 250 yards } and lost. Last week they emptied their bucket vs. a decent but rebuilding Michigan team getting the win . How much energy do they have vs. Iowa on the road this week? We saw Iowa got toe to toe for a half with OSU and will be a difficult team to playa as always. Hawkeyes Laying less than a FG [ML also fine} } looks like some value here.

Week 8

Pick North - 9 at Grove City -

PN too strong here. GC may score a bit but will likely give up too much and fade in the second half. GC got Westland their Tough street mantra earlier on before they had the confidence and won by 10 . PN sees a one loss team and can get up for that on the road and show their talent here.

PN 38 GC 16

Delaware Hayes - 30 Scioto

Irish has some issues as they settle into the post Karl Johnson era. They have work to do. If they play with pride an heart they should cover this BUT losing to Franklin Heights by a decent margin may signal they have packed it up folded the tents and are trudging down the mountain. Hayes doesn't usually score a ton [40+} no matter the opponent , so in a game that usually doesn't make the list of interesting , I'll trust the Irish aren't as bad as they were against FH and have some pride to get the narrow cover.

DH 37 Irish 9

Davidson - 21 at Coffman -

Rocks can and probably score enough to cover this . How many points will they allow is the question and is always the question this season. They just don't cover the ground and close fast enough to take away key space on the field. Edges are iffy, open field speed to close that space is lacking. You can't just teach or coach kids to move faster. Rocks over the years have had some undersized defenses, some defensive units that were a year away from playing at a high level , but they almost always had the type of athletic movements and speed to make some plays or at least prevent a lot of big plays. Having kids who can catch some folks from behind or gobble up open space and close fast is invaluable. Rocks at home vs. their rival should compete fairly well and they have the best and most explosive and overall athlete on the field in Valerio-Hudson.

Davidson 31 Coffman 20

Week 8 Cont.

Big Nut - 7 at Westy North -

WN gives up chunks of points in most games against decent competition save that weird 3-0 win vs. the Ibbies. BW is a bit more consistent and should be able to wear down the Warriors eventually. Could be a good ballgame.

BW 28 WN 19

Westland - 4 Westy SIB -

Hot team and the better offense with the stud back and a couple other good athletes should get the one full score margin here

Westland 27 WSIB 20

Man, the 2021 thread is a very interesting read in retrospect 🤣.
IMG_7012.jpeg

Man! It’s been one heck of a ride! At least we can say that. Hope the end is coming up soon and everyone can get off this crazy train.
IMG_7008.jpeg

Exclusive culture? 🤣

AHM is a total liar and fraud. Remember that 2020 post where he is playing detective on Coffman when they were working out during the pandemic? Said he was a neutral North Columbus guy .lol. He says he has spoken to me? He knows me I don't know him? He is a longtime Coffman hater who suddenly became a supporter when Crabtree left. Period. Then he spent the last few years doing what we have seen here. He just won't go away. I will keep posting some of his greatest hits if he comes back here . His influence and trolling brought the guys from the toxic debate side . Not literally but they saw that this thread had some toxicity that he brought and only he brought here. They then surmised it was a free for al and just another debate side like personal troll fest. Stokes has standards and teaches good values, but he needed to foster a culture that the better athletes in the school wanted to be part of. He needed to try to do more with the MS Feeders. He will be a success again at a smaller school most likely like Bob Gecewich up at Perry . Bottom line is he will likely finish under 500 after 4 seasons.

Allegiance to Crabtree? Never said I was anything but a fan who posted what i thought for many years. There was no passive aggressiveness going on with Stokes . I like and still like a lot of his coaching style and things [Habits, discipline hard work } he teaches. Some of the early motivational stuff he used I wasn't really impressed by. Thought there was no need for the bashing of the two decades long successful program and the people who built it. This wining the right way mantra implying that it was done the 'Wrong " way previously was flat out insulting and not accurate. You don't build that type of consistent success doing things the wrong way or the easy way. Different styles no question. A couple different things can be true at the same time, both positive things and negative. Doesn't have to be all in with everything a coach says and does or be against it Don't need to make a black and white choice.

Week 8 Cont.

Marysville - 28 YOTW-

Tommy W gets beat by larger than this margin most weeks. Almost all weeks. Marysville has felt themselves coming on the last two weeks. 35-7 final = a push ? Tickets still available. Not quite the type of week like say Davidson -Coffman circa say 2009 lol.
Free Porridge on Saturday morning for all the villagers if YOTW scores 2 TD'S ?

M-Ville 38 YOTW 12

Week 8 Cont.

Orange - 1 Upper Arlington-

Bears were coming on steamrolling teams they should steamroll giving up nothing on defense. They have a couple good receivers , with three year Vet Swiney and undersized quick elusive athlete two-year transfer Wolpert [Teays Valley} . QB is getting a bit better and the defense is a pretty solid unit with some motivation this week after giving up some points in their 31-28 win. Orange is a very solid team but there are some things that are not going to be good enough to beat UA. I was impressed for a few plays watching this game and then kind of well they aren't that good. Bears know this is a game that could decide the league title . Butterworth with some m ore time at his school and building his program is the difference here

UA 21 Orange 17

Is the Coffman HC allowed in any of the middle schools to talk to the prospective players? Since Coffman doesn't have a direct middle school I have heard the administration will not allow the varsity coaches in to "recruit" the students because they might accidently talk to a kid that is going to a different Dublin school. Is this true? Is the varsity coach also allowed to hire their own JH coaches to install their programs since some kids go to different schools which varsity coach gets say in the JH program?

If you can't talk to JH students and can't hire coaches it feels like building through the middle school would be very difficult if those things are true.

Any info on how the JH's are set up in Dublin and if these things are true?

Not sure how it is now, but it's always been a "don't step on each others toes" environment. Most coaches will do their yearly, show their face at a middle school game to show solidarity maybe influence a kid or two to come to their high school. I imagine its not as cutthroat as people think

If your address doesn't matter and kids truly have 100% freedom to go to whatever HS they want that could be a huge advantage. Are all the multiple HS school districts operating like this in Columbus, kind of a free for all setting to go where you want ?

I Imagine most are with the exception of a few in which you'll have to fill out a form or something reasoning why you want to switch.

Olentangy district sets district lines on which high school students attend. There is a waiver process if a family wants to attend a different high school that is submitted to central office but it has to be a legitimate reason, which does not happen very often.

After having 100% freedom to pick a HS in Dublin are you then locked into that HS for your career? or can you move back and fourth whenever you want to?

I never realized kids got this much freedom to go where ever they wanted without their address having anything to do with it in Dublin.

I don’t think it’s 100% freedom in Dublin to pick what HS you want to attend, although things may have changed. I believe it’s more along the lines of what FBFanatic describes for olentangy.

That would make sense on many levels, if kids are given freedom to choose that could lead to chaos throughout the district.

Agreed, but that’s how it is in much of Ohio with statewide open enrollment.
Sure is if your district has open enrollment. Does Dublin have open enrollment?
It's also illegal to recruit kids that aren't in your specific school district. So that is where the difference comes in.

So kids in your district getting to choose could be recruited by Coffman, Jerome, and Scioto legally by coaches of all sports.

I saw the post earlier about building a program through the middle schools but I wondered how exactly that was possible if Coffman doesn't have a middle school the is a 100% feeder into their HS? It's also difficult to build through middle school if the varsity coach doesn't get to hire or instruct the middle school coaches on what he would like taught because the middle school isn't a true feeder into just 1 HS.

Dublin kids can't go wherever they want . Sells is a longtime Coffman feeder and half of Karrer split with Jerome for a long while. District has expanded and the lines have changed but I wans';t talking aobut Stokes just recruiting kids from every square mile of the district because it doesn't work that way. What i was saying was the feeders and Frosh teams haven't bene wining cultures for a while now . Still aren't to this day.

PC - 18 GPM -

PC coming on a bit and GPM fading a bit. Numbers about right but made it 20 so I'll go with that

PC 34 GPM 14

Liberty - 32 Bradley-

Jags are catching the Patriots off of a so so game vs Coffman and a tough loss late to the Bears of UA , 32 is a lot of lumber though

Patriots 43 Jags 13

Davidson obviously hired Stokes as a pre-game motivational speaker. Worlds are colliding, has to be some kind of conflict of interest. Probably had him running their weight room too, revolutionary I tell ya!

Orange had a handful of “you gotta be kidding me” mistakes (jumps on fourth) and a really rough fumble on the UA 2 up 21-17 with ~7 left. I will say their defense really did dig deep in the second half (UA had to labor their way offensively in the first.)

Score is a little… weird.

Final was 28-20 Orange.

• Down 14-7 late in the 2nd quarter, UA opted for a FG from the OO 7 — despite Orange jumping off before the snap. UA declined the close-up, opted to kick from the 7. I get why they didn’t want to respot it (righty kicking from right hash — would’ve been a tough angle.) OTOH, UA would get ball to start second half.

• Orange threw a p6ck two plays later. 17-14 UA.

• Orange went three and out. UA really did mess this drive up in retrospect — ended up in plausible FG range but got stuck in the ‘no mans land” of time remaining and the last timeout burnt. Ended up getting sacked to end the half.

• Orange’s defense came through bigly in the second half.

• Mentioned the GL fumble earlier. UA stalled out around the Orange 30 yard line. On 3rd and 5, Davis got what should’ve been the clincher (conceivably) and turned it into a dagger.

• UA’s final drive reminded me of that Eagles-Pats Super Bowl in the 2000’s where the Eagles are just taking their time coming down the field. I get why this happen, it’s a kids game. As soon as UA finally got into FG territory (with nine seconds left) they booted it to try and keep alive the “onside & Hail Mary” pathway. Onside got botched.

Situational dynamics are starting to play a bigger role as usual at this point of the season as the wear and tear occurs , injuries scheduling spots and very early 'Must" win situations come up at this point. They aren't literally must haves but the Niners were in a self proclaimed draw the line in the sand type game as they were struggling a bit and went into Seattle talking quasi play-off game adn they match up well with Seattle as well , getting a bit healthier and controlled the action in a nice win for us. Utah last night was in a pretty disappointing place as their expectations were higher than the level of play they exhibited. Not scoring enough is an issue and the UNDER last night with their defense desperate and a struggling offense made the UNDER obvious. Luckily it stayed under by a half point [46 points scored 46.5 posted} . Coffman off of two hard fought losses had little in the emotional tank and it showed . Just a tough season and pretty clear that Stokes isn't going want to be here to be a long time 500 at best coach. Football was a consistent winner for 2 decades, and nothing lasts forever. It happens. Colerain can't win ballgames. Some famed programs around the country are now average or just occasionally strong. It happens. 4-4-1 [Jerome getting 21 vs Berlin was my week 8 Final post last play that didn't get sent on my phone for some reason but I had it a 2 score game and the Country Clubbers showed something playing well losing by one score} UA losing and giving up that many points was a bit surprising, PN overtaking GC wasn't . PN has the nice QB WR RB triplet situation and over 48 they are usually going to make enough plays to beat folks. Scioto showed some heart and was a good take at an excessive price. . BW- Westy North FJ's was closer than expected. YOTW - Marysville right on the number. Bradley hangs in a bit better than expected but covered the number for us by over a TD. [32}

Got Colorado at + 4 and at home with an offense that is clicking going against a below average pass defense unit at K-State. Pretty popular side which isn't always good but this should be a very interesting close ballgame.

GA State - 1.5 is rising a bit as well to beat ODU . GSU laid an egg last week losing to rival GA Southern, but is a better team than that. Beat Vandy who has their best team in a long while, this price is right as ODU which we have gone against a couple times' with mixed results [Bowling Green egg layer hurt } but this is their third straight road game and off a hard fought loss last week at Coastal Carolina I think GSU is primed for a bounce back and ODU may be road weary and not have enough here at a very fair price.

CFU started at 3-0 and has bene disappointing the last two. They need this win badly to get back on track as the conference schedule ramps up. Cincy is off of a close road loss at Texas Tech , now gets back on the road to go to Florida to take on a desperate football team. Laid the 3 with CFU and expect them to get the victory at home by more than 3.

LA Monroe has a pretty solid defense only giving up 12 a game if you take away the being outclassed vs Texas giving up 50. Beat JMU last week which was a fortunate win but holding that club to 19 points is impressive. Southern Miss is on a 3 game skid and this one opened at 4.5-5 and is now 7- 7.5 . Got the 6.5 a few days ago and it's a nice situation which the LM defense should hold this club to a couple TD's at most.

Out west some value getting 3.5 with Fresno St. to hang with Washington State at home. UNLV crushed Fresno which adds value getting this number as the stock price is pretty low.

Oregon State laying only 3 at Nevada who may be a bit better than earlier projections but this is a nice value with the better team laying the short price.

A few totals that have gained some steam and attention in the market with lines changing a bitre

Akron -WMU UNDER 52.5

BYU - Arizona UNDER 50

Clemson - Wake Forest OVER 61.5

Coffman season has bene about giving up BIG HUGE MASSIVE plays and last night was no exception, people just run through at times and ultimately away from Rocks defenders at will . Tough schedule playing some good teams BUT the plays they give up are plays that the bottom rung of teams give up. Gibbon was unstoppable and the Cats have a better passsing game than the Rocks. Better defense, better RUNNING GAME, and the disparity was obvious. Strikingly clear. Great long clock churning drive to get it to 28-14 with about 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. PERFECT. Until they gave up another huge Gibbon sprint to the end zone to put the game away pretty much. Same time same station, seen this movie a few times . Ballgame and season thankfully the bleeding will stop a bit in week 10 and lets see the play-off match-up
