Game is scheduled for Friday at Brooklyn Memorial Stadium at 7pm.

Benedictine was missing their starting quarterback, middle linebacker/2nd running back, and talented wide receiver/defensive back against Columbiana, though they pulled away after the first quarter.

Defiance comes off of a 6-4 season, with close losses to some Division III contenders (Wapakoneta, St Mary's Memorial).

Winner will play Buckeye/Padua. Go Bengals!

Are those players expected back next week?

Also, a little correction - Defiance beat St. Marys and the Wapak loss was not close. Neither was the Bath loss, but the Celina loss was a close game, and the week 1 loss was a blown win for sure.

IF we do not have JJ Baldwin and Church looks to have a bad ankle, all Defiance will have to do is stack the box , and contain Maloney. This game will definitely be very very close.

That's very kind of you, but I'm sure Benedictine has better athletes, and plays a tougher schedule. I think Defiance will have to play outstanding just to even keep it close.

I would sit Maloney, the whole game, against Defiance for the way his action on the 47 yard TD run. His Personal Foul and then he flips off the ref. Not a M.O.B.

Please correct your post. I'm not defending his stiff arm which was punkish, but he did not flip off the referee.

It appears he was pointing at the scoreboard.

How many players did Defiance return this year? Is this year's team comparable to last year's?

Also would love to hear anyone's thoughts on the TCC/Defiance take last year. Looks like Defiance kept it close for most of the game?
Defiance returned somewhere around ¾ of its starting positions from last year. Didn’t lose many seniors but the ones they did lose were great contributors and a few two-way starters, perhaps. This year’s senior class has to be much bigger than last year’s. I think everyone is no doubt disappointed that they didn’t at least equal last year’s regular season record (7-3) – if they did, or even managed to finish 8-2, perhaps they could’ve grabbed the 4 seed and had a much better 2nd round draw. Even after losing the first two games this year and picking up steam, I wasn’t expecting them to necessarily win out, but I wasn’t expecting the two-game swoon they had in weeks 8 and 9 either.

As for last year’s TCC game, it was the most points TCC gave up all season – all legit points too – and its second closest game of the season after a regular season close win, I think. It was a weird game in that TCC returned two first half kick offs for touchdowns, but Defiance still couldn’t stop their offense and TCC did end each half at the one yard line after a fumble and a kneel down, so it could have been worse. I think TCC led 28-20 at half before Defiance ran out of steam. But it was a great effort by Defiance.

So how about some info on Benedictine? How balanced are they on offense? Any offensive or defensive stats? Any college recruits? Do they have a lot of seniors/experience?

Defiance was losing 34-0 in the third quarter of the Wapakoneta game. I wouldn’t call that close at all.

The offense starts with Chris Maloney. Set the single game rushing record last week, which with the running back history they have, that says something. But that doesn’t mean they can’t throw ball to guys like JJ Baldwin, Luke Carlton, or Antowine Smith. However, it’s the defense that drives this team. They’ve only given more than 20 points once all year. They have a Junior D-linemen Tyrell O’Neal who holds an offer from Illinois, the only really highly recruited player on the team, but they are a very complete unit. They play multiple fronts, multiple coverages, and bring plenty of pressure. Probably 5 seniors on offense, 5 on defense this week depending on who plays with injuries

Rooting for Defiance, but I suspect this will be a tough game for them. Defiance can be a tricky team when they're firing on all cylinders. Their offense, ball control, and physicality. It seems like they're still pretty often going for 2-pt conversions after TDs instead of XPs, which has sort of made them a more tolerable Kenton in that regard. TCC saw last year how tough this Defiance team can be. This season, they've been a little more hot and cold. Good luck to the Bulldogs.

I wouldn’t exactly say they have the mindset of going for two points before even scoring – they’ve usually only done it to make up for missed previous extra points or, in the situation of last week, being up 8-0 after a safety and wanting to make it a nice round score, I guess. Unfortunately the kicking game has been a bit inconsistent. Many of the two-point conversions are fun to watch though, they definitely open the playbook on those. Defiance is no doubt going to have to win the turnover battle by at least a couple and keep the penalties way down to even have a chance in this game.
