This has been a back and forth series over the years. I can remember driving out to Stambaugh Stadium many times with a feeling of dread because SVSM was about to get their head handed back to them. The current cycle is in favor of SVSM.
But I remember watching last year's game at Stambaugh. SVSM had a comfortable lead, and then Ursuline brought in a reserve underclassman at QB in the second half. All of a sudden, Ursuline is doing whatever they chose to do offensively.I kept thinking it was good that SVSM had a big lead because that lead almost evaporated completely coming down the stretch. We escaped with a 35-28 win.
Now that begs the question @Cinciirish, is that young man still the QB at Ursuline? The Y'Town Irish ALWAYS play a rugged schedule and will be battle tested and prepared on Friday night at Green Street. What I have seen from the SVSM Irish lately is disturbing, but correctable. At the most inopportune times, we lose focus. Silly pre snap penalties, penalties that wipe out big plays when the foul is completely away from the play. The most disturbing is the number of defensive penalties we incur allowing drives to continue.
We have the talent to go toe to tor with our Youngstown brethren. But to be successful, we must play smarter and cleaner.
