2024 Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers starting right tackle Troy Fautanu injured a knee in practice Friday and is sidelined indefinitely, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The 2024 first-round pick was slated to make his second career start against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, but fellow tackle Broderick Jones said Fautanu had "a little tweak" in Friday's practice and would be getting an MRI to evaluate the severity of the injury.

Time for Broderick Jones to wash the taste of last weeks game out of his mouth.

I Didnt know Easton Stick was in the league until yesterday

Im suprised they even started a QB with a high ankle sprain. The inability of the Chargers to even remotely mount any kind of offense in the 2nd half can be tied to Herbert injury.
Patterson looked strong runnung the ball in the 4th quarter. But then again, the Chargers D was fatigued due to their offense looking very Akron Zippish

Well, Im off to read the Browns thread and their tiki torch of.all things named Watson and Skefanski

The positives for the Steelers:
* Best game Fieids has played as a NFL player, it’s not even close
* Frazier at C just keeps chugging along.
* Highsmith played really well in the 1st half but tweeked his groin.
* Herbig comes in the 2nd half and gets 2 sacks. If he got starters minutes/snaps, I think he’d get 12-15 sacks. Kid can play
* Heyward is healthy and looks great
* Watt is Watt - no one better in the NFL
* Rookies ILB Wilson and Guard McCormick played solid. McCormick played swing tackle, he has some nastiness to him.

Negatives/concerns:
* 3-0 but the margin of error is so slight, could easily be 1-2 or 2-1.
* Fields - still don’t think he’s much more than a solid backup NFL QB but he is only 25 with 3 years of poor coaching/support at the NFL level. He’s starting next week, he’s earned it
* OL injury bug. LG Seumalo hopefully will be back in a week or two and Fautanu just went on IR and will miss next 3 games

On to Indianapolis next week.

Definitely lots of positives. Fields has his first 3 game win streak as a pro. We’re 3-0 when nobody expected it and a 2 game lead in the North. Usually we get off to slow starts but this year given the strength of schedule we’re looking good. Indy on the road is a winnable game. Let’s hope we’re talking about 4-0 in a week.

Obviously we should be happy starting 3-0, but no way should we look at ANY opponent as a winnable game. Our margin for error is still razor thin Carolina looked horrific until they benched Young for Red. They proceeded to drop over 30 points in a road victory. The Browns looked at the Giants game in Clevland as a winnable game. Then they stunk up the joint.

Tomlin only needs to win 6 of the next 14 games to keep the no losing record streak alive. If the Steelers play .500 ball the rest of the season that puts them at 10-7 and in the playoffs. Then they have to win a playoff game. 🥴

Agreed, we lost to NE and Ariz last year when both teams were 2-9 or something like that. .......... and still won 10 games.

Lets just enjoy this for what it is. I LOVE everyone that picked the Steelers last in the AFC North.

The Steelers have the following injuries:

* Punter Cameron Johnston got hurt in week 1 and is out for the year. The new guy has done fine, he’s way better than last years punter.

* Rookie OT Troy Fautanu is on IR (knee surgery) and out for the regular season. Get ready for 2025 season. Pit signed vet OT Calvin Anderson this week. Hopefully Anderson never plays. Rookie OG Mason McCormick played swing tackle vs LAC. OT Jones needs to play like a 1st rd pick.

* OLB Alex Highsmith - out a few weeks due to groin injury. Great opportunity for Herbig to show he can be a star edge rusher. Steelers lose depth with this injury. May see an opportunity for DE/OLB DeMarvin Leal to revive his career.

* RB Jaylen Warren - knee, was removed in the LAC game by Tomlin. Sit him for a couple of weeks and hopefully he comes back close to 100%. Absolute spark plug when healthy. Steelers need him in 3rd downs.

* RB Najee Harris -arm/elbow. He was in a sling after Sundays game. I like Harris, he runs hard and has been durable thus far. Good, not great RB.

So this is what we are rolling with. I was worried going into the Chargers game and the oline did a good job, def in the 4th Q.

Can't just find oline guys anywhere. Other teams are having the same issues.

Coach T said Najee is ready to rock. I guess no need to worry about the arm sling.

Despite the horrific start I saw some positives
1. Justin Fields had a decent day- not just game manager. That last snap that bounced off his face mask is a head scratcher
2. After being Down 17-0 they outplayed the Colts
3. Cordarelle Patterson made me forget Warren was out

One thing that frustrated me was the 1st drive. We punted at the Colts 41 yard line. Boswell has shown he can make the 58 yarder. Also going for it on 4th down at our 40 was concerning. Especially with everybody knowing Fields was keeping it. Automatically put the Colts in FG range

Pittsburgh has finished on the basement once since the NFL/AFL merger. 1988.
One road loss by a FG in a parity driven league isnt gonna mean the bottom is falling out
88 was a tough year but we did have some talent. Louis Lipps was one of my favorites other than Rod Woodson.

This is the steelers team we were expecting this season.

6-11 season is our trajectory
Pitt finished 10 - 7 last year, Fields is a decent QB he was drafted by a horrible organization. Not a betting man but I would a bet you a uncle gus milk stout at tailspin that the steelers finish no worse than 8 - 9.

When you mentioned about the 4th down and 1 and going for it, why would they not line up under center?? That was the real head scratcher for me.

The Steelers have a rookie center, a rookie making his first start at LG from North Dakota St and I think that was after their starting RG Daniels hurt his ankle so they had their backup Anderson in.

Sometimes the call isn’t always about the “best play call” but going with/to your best player. Once the play is called, line up & execute it.

The defense let the Steelers down on Sunday.

completely agree. defense that has been elite came out simply unprepared and couldn't stop Indy at all. then, it typical fashion, couldn't stop 137 year old Joe Flacco.

this game is squarely on the defense (about 80%) and Pickens fumble (20%). stats show Steelers dominated almost every category. problem is they dominated the turnover category as well, 2-0. the inability to get a stop coupled with that was why we lost.

this one will haunt come end of the season.

We found our brian1227 of the steelers thread.

Lost a road game to a desperate team, because the defense was not its usual self, and you lost the turnover battle. Welcome to the NFL. No way this team finishes 6-11 unless the defense loses half its starters. You have 3 wins now, and get to play my Browns twice. Thats 5 wins right there. 9-8 at worst.

Tough loss in losing Daniels for the year due. The Steelers should be getting back their other starting G Seumalo soon so it looks like rookie 4th round G McCormick is the next guy up. Guard is the easiest oline position to replace but still, going from your best olineman to a rookie is tough. McCormick was a 3 year starter and I believe a captain his junior & senior year. He plays with an attitude and is a physical freak. He did beat out Anderson for the start at LG last week vs Indy. Now, if only he can play at a high level.

There is a reason why this team was picked to finish last. Dont let a start against mediocre opponents, where the stillers didnt play that well, fool ya.

This is a team that will finish 3rd or 4th in the division

mark my words

They hav been picked to finish last for the past 4 years i think. Didn't happen.

Looking at the start of the season Atl and Denver appeared to be weak opponents.

Atlanta has beat Philly and NO. Lost a close game to KC
Den beat TB and the Jets. Lost close games to Pitt and Sea.

This is the NFL buddy. No way you are a Steeler fan. Why don't you go somewhere else to troll?

agreed. to start the season the Steelers SOS was supposed to be one of the hardest, especially 2nd half. I think that's gone down a bit because of the Bengals/Browns/Eagles all being "mediocre" now.
