Badin is just not that good. Not sure CJ is as well but will compete with anyone with Hoagland on the mound.
Badin walked 6 and hit two batters. Pretty sure all but one run by either team was a walk.
Only the second time in 30 plus years Badin has not won the league. That includes 2 separate occasions that the State Champ came from the GCL but Rams were league champs(McNick 98, Purcell 2003).

Badin could still split

Kramer walked 7. so they cant say they didn't have opportunities w/guys on base.
They did, for sure. But timely hitting and moving runners was just not there for them. The few times they barreled the ball, it was right to the defense. And to McNick's credit, their defense stepped up after a lackluster effort the night before at McNick.

It definitely feels like a rebuilding year. So many Sophomores are seeing significant playing time. Many of their top arms are 10th graders, and only one starter in the field is a senior.

They have the talent to compete with anyone (see Trinity and St Ignatius game), but lack the experience and can lose to anyone as well. The next two years should be exciting for sure.

Both Badin and CJ have a lot of new players in their lineups. It’s easy to have bad games with young teams. Badin and CJ are both good compared to teams in the State. Tournament is what matters when you have your horses on the hill.

They are comparable to most teams in the area. Not sure how that plays across the state. CJ or Badin has represented Region 8 in the state semis every year since 2016.

That’s pretty impressive for one conference to send someone every year, and a testament to Badin and CJ’s consistency. I have to think 2020 would’ve been the same result also.

Badin was D1 in 2018-2020.
What is silly is that they were D3 from 2007-2015. Pretty sure cj beat badin in the D3 regionals in 2014.
CJ is 3-0 against the Rams in the tourney. 2014, 2017, 2023.3-2, 3-2, 2-1

Was at the West vs. Badin game earlier this week. Fairly well played and pitched game by both teams. Badin really struggled to score. West's approach with runners in scoring position is a puzzle. Badin still plays really hard maybe not as sharp as recent teams. Both teams could have won this game. Left before xtras started.

Anyone know why Fenwick was so underwhelming this year? With their pitching, I was convinced they would do well

Despite his 13 hits, Tristan Bezold has only played in 13 games this year. The key component to their offense was out for multiple games this season. No one else in the lineup really catches eyes or puts up any big time numbers. Fortunately the sophomore class is fairly sized with ball players so maybe they can get the bats warm in years to come.

Lets give Alter some credit no one thought they would be really competitive at all this year and are having a much better season then anyone predicted.
I wasn't discrediting Alter at all. Hoagland pitched for CJ. Thought it was a lock. He has 12K but their offense let him down and Alter took advantage. Kudos to them!
