High school State title talk!

OHSAA is working towards more divisions expect 4 in wrestling eventually - a lot more money in 4 divisions than in 3. Who cares how many kids celebrate - the more the merrier.

I understand that D1 is the hardest to win at some weights and some kids may never win a state title because of a kid or too that may have their number, but the disrespect for D2 and D3 is just awful.those kids competing in those divisions deserve better from the critics because it’s not like kids are not wrestling each other at other tournaments.Ohio as a whole has some of the best kids in country and for us to say that your D2 or d3 title is less than a d1 title is the robbery
I don't say that. You have to learn to ignore stuff like that. There are different divisions for a reason.

Its like NCAA D1, D2, D3 and NAIA. All have a place and all are great accomplishments. No need to hate.

Not directly on point, and of course we can only speculate, but I've always wondered what the results would be if there was a tri-meet with the three teams consisting of the D-I, D-II, and D-III champions.
Let the speculation begin. Straight up according to results. No flipping or bumping.

I think DubStat has a feature that can do predictions.

As a retired official/coach that began in the 70's this would be a terrible decision. There was a time when D-3 was pretty much disrespected (like an illegitimate brother). Thank goodness the pendulum swung to give them their deserved respect. With the sad state of sectionals today I couldn't imagine the lack of competition we'd see if we went to four divisions. Watered down wouldn't be a good enough descriptor. LOL!! IF anything, they should go to two divisions. Sectionals would go back to being competitive.

Word from someone VERY high up in the food chain is that there is zero way to justify 4 divisions unless the male population suddenly increases. While he said a case could be made for making it 2 divisions, that is not likely at all.

Why are we looking at who is better, these kids wrestle each other all season long the point that needs to be addressed is we have 3 divisions that all wrestle at the same state tournament together and once your a state champion you are a champion

In a hypothetical four division scenario, there would probably be a change to the postseason structure, most likely going to one layer prior to the state tournament, as opposed to the present two.

Heck yea. AA and AAA were placing 6 at St. John's, A was placing 4 at the local college gym.
If you remember, up until ‘89, the numbers for the three divisions weren’t even like they are now.
Ex : let’s say today there are 600 schools that have wrestling. They are divided up evenly by enrollment with @ 200 schools in each division.
Back in the late 70’s and 80’s, if there were 600 schools with wrestling, top 250 were “AAA”, next 250 were “AA”, and bottom 100 were “A”.
That was why “A” brackets were 8-man and only gave awards to top 4.
And on top of that, follow the leader to wrestle for third if you lost in any division/class.
Barbaric!!!
