From WIN article last season I assume most states are close to date this year. Would love to know start dates as well. I cant help but think if Ohio State Tournament was earlier,

We would never have a blemish of no state tournament during covid year

Also, In a way it’s cool that Ohio is last and is a showcase for the whole country

Just posted for thoughts and observations no real purpose

I haven't looked at this year's state-by-state listing yet, but doubt it changed much. Ye old debate, is there a particular reason why Ohio's goes so late compared to the rest of the country? Only states even close to as late as us looked like MN and WVA. Everyone else has already take a little break and/or refreshed and got a week or weeks under their belt for FS/GR season.

The Arnold Fitness Expo taking most of the hotels or causing hotels to jack up prices. So we moved back a week. I feel like we were earlier than the Arnold not that long ago? By not that long ago, I mean this century, not necessarily this decade.

Makes sense, guess I need to remind myself that there are other events other than wrestling that effect scheduling etc. but hell with them LOL

Individual State Wrestling Tournament…

Last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of February.

Make. It. So.

Do TEAM State Duals the week after.
Unfortunately we hold no power with OSU due to 3 OSU teams using the Schott during February and it being B10 schedule. This year would have worked out Th-Sat 2/22-2/24 as Hockey and Men's Basketball were away and Women's basketball game was on Sunday 2/25.

Next year probably not

You're right. It doesn't have to be but statewide there are very few arenas that can hold 10 mats. An OHSAA seems to want to keep it in Cbus. Only other place in Columbus that could possibly hold 10 mats is Nationwide. Have to work around NHL schedule
Nationwide arena also has the OHSAA state hockey tournament. Which may be the same weekend as wrestling.

There's also the pro volleyball team playing at Nationwide now during the season. And there's often concerts scheduled at Nationwide around late Feb/early March. I would guess one concert with 18,000 people buying expensive tickets and expensive alcohol would bring in way more money than a 3 day wrestling tournament with no alcohol and many the attendees bringing their own food/drinks.

The same thing occurs at the Shott. Concerts and the OSU teams. But I get your point.

This is where I wish that bid info that is submitted or requested was required to be published in the minutes of OHSAA meetings. It would help us understand why things are where they are.

you also have football season.we start the season later do to their season is longer. keep it in the schott.and fs and greco will survive.very few fs and greco.

One random point to add here is neither arena does their own booking. There was tension between the arena for a while competing against each other, so they formed the Columbus Arena Management or something like that. They decide where events are held besides the college/pro teams who obviously have rights to their own arena. So like even if Nationwide is available and OHSAA wants to move it earlier, they can still be told it can't happen if there's other events downtown like at the Convention Center that would put a strain on available hotels and parking and such.

And just to be realistic, they would probably rather have wrestling away from downtown. Look at who was at the Columbus regional for hockey, all very wealthy or upper middle class suburbs/private schools except for Gahanna which is still pretty decent. If we're being honest, we have to admit that the wrestling tournament brings a lot of hillbillies and rednecks to town. The owners of downtown hotels are part of the management group and I'd bet the clientele is taken into consideration.
