The Fighting Crusaders of Steubenville Central would start their 2003 campaign much like their brethren at 420 North Fourth Street - a 60-6 victory over the Knights of the Pittsburgh Academy.

On a cool August night, the Fighting Crusaders dominated the Academy from start to finish, never letting the Knights cross into crusader territory aside from one big play in the third quarter.

The Knights would recieve the opening kick off but after many problems in their huddle, they would turn the ball over on downs at their own 33. Crusader RB Samples, on the very first play from scrimmage, ran the ball off the left side for a TD with 6:02 left in the quarter. The extra point was good and the Crusaders quickly got on the board.

The Knights would once again have the ball but were forced into a punting situation. Deep in their own territory, the Academy punted only in vain as Samples returned the punt 31 yards for the TD. The Crusaders were on fire and now led the game 14-0 with 3:52 left in the first quarter.

Once again, the Knights would recieve the ball only to go four and out giving possession to the Crusaders as time ran out on the clock.

The Crusaders would get the ball on the Knights 20 but with some great defense that the Knights put forth, the Crusaders were turned away and turned the ball over on downs on the Knights 22 yard line.

The Pittsburgh Academy would get the ball but as before, would go 4 and out giving the Crusaders the ball deep in Knight territory.

On a second and sixteen Crusader QB Spence would hit his WR McKitrick for a 38 yard TD pass with 7:53 left in the half. The Crusaders missed the extra point. The Crusaders were now up 20-0.

Knights would once again have the ball but on a 2 and 20, would fumble with the Crusaders gaining possesion. However, the knights once again would stop the Fighting Crusaders forcing them to punt. Crusader Kicker would punt the ball into the endzone forcing the touchback.

Kights would sustain a little drive of 6 plays but would end up punting giving the ball to the Crusaders on the Knights 38.

The Crusaders on 3 and 12 would run a picture perfect screen pass for 40 yards and the TD. Crusader RB Creagan would get credit for the TD and the extra point was blocked with a minute fouteen left in the half. Central now winning 26-0.

The Knights would get the ball but knealt letting the clock run out into half time.

When the boys came back after half time, the Crusaders would get the ball scoring minutes later on RB Samples 22 yard run for the TD with 9:05 left in the third quarter. The extra point once again was no good and the Crusaders were winning with a score of 32-0.

But the Knights would finally score. On there next possession, the Knights RB Bonnar would break out a 71 yard TD running. They attempted a Two point conversion missing it with 8:27 left in the half.

The rest of the quarter lasted real long as it was dominated by the Crudsaders.

Crusader RB Poverini would score a ten yard TD with 5:57 left in the 3rd. Extra point no good. 38-6.
Poverini would score once again with a 6 yard run with 3:41 left in the third. The extra point was blocked. 44-6.

The Crusader Defense on this, the Knights 10th Possession, would score the safty as the Knights were pinned on their own one yard line. Score was now 46-6.

Poverini would score again with a 19 yard TD run, missed extra point. 52-6.

Fourth quarter would finally arrive and the Crusaders second string was giving the go ahead to ginish the game.

Payton would score the final TD for the Crusaders with 4:03 left in the game, two point conversion was good and the game ended with the Crusaders winning 60-6.
