State Champs Prediction

Final poll results: https://ohsbca.org/aws/ohsbca/clien...6e7a21aa3f733ac10cb07ba697d5b529b4f1374845bbd

My predictions for state champ: (it's gonna sound kinda chalk, but...)

D1: Moeller (hard to pick anyone other than them)
Keep an eye on: Grove City, Mason, Olentangy Orange

D2: Bishop Watterson (I'm surprised they're not ranked #1)
Keep an eye on: Badin, Defiance, Jonathan Alder (Watterson and Alder potential District Final on Wednesday if they both win tonight)

D3: Wheelersburg (just cuz they've been there many times before)
Keep an eye on: Coldwater, Norwayne, Edison

D4: The winner of tonight's District Semifinal between #1 Hiland and #2 Toronto

Moeller is definitely the favorite, but I wouldn't consider them the only real choice as some have conveyed on here, especially due to them taking two late-season losses to opponents that should be far beneath them.

Mason also gave them a run for their money a month ago. Mason was one run away from winning that game in regulation. They left about 10 runs on base over 5 innings. Anything can happen in tourney time. Whether it's Mason or another team, Moeller has shown some gaps in their armor and they are beatable.

And Alder finally knocked the bastard off (beating Bloom-Carroll in districts.)
It sure didn't come easy.....but what a setup for Alder - the chance to take out your two most hated rivals in a week's time. Of course you can also say they'll most likely need to beat a league opponent for the third time in the next two games (London/Kenton Ridge). Not easy.

Collins lead the CBC in strikeouts and only had one off day in losing to Urbana. He held JA to 2 runs with 0 earned.
I heard he is only a soph? He gave up 1 hit to Watterson. Had 8 walks and 8 K's. Worked out of trouble in the the early innings. Had 104 pitches i believe.

With the district final tomorrow (although weather forecast isn’t good) Greg Kennedy (he’s been lights out) will go for Alder. Not sure who will go for London but it won’t be able to be Collins.

Who is Alder’s best arm. Martin or Kennedy? They seem to have a clear path to canal park now that watterson is out of the way.

It’s currently heading into the sixth, and Steve Blackledge said the unspeakable on Twitter.

Meanwhile, in D4, Hiland is facing an unusual challenge in the East District from a non-Toronto opponent.

Strasburg 5
Hiland 3

mid-6th

Headed to watch D1 Loveland vs. Vandalia Butler at Mason High School for Southwest District Championship. Loveland should have a good shot since Kentucky commit Hunter Richardson threw 100 pitches a couple nights ago in the district semifinal. Lefty Drew Oerther expected to take the mound for Loveland.

1-0 Vandalia Butler. Fun game.

update: Hiland just mashed a granny
I watched that game. Strasburg had them. Hiland was down to 6 outs and the Burg pitcher was in control.

He got the first out in the bottom of the 6th, and should have had the next out, but the 1B dropped an easy pop foul. That batter walked and he walked the next batter. Burg coach comes walking out and I was like, "You better not pull him. Let him try to work out of it because he has stymied a great hitting team for 4 straight innings." He pulled him. A single loaded the bases and then Cody Yoder hit a no-doubter over the left-center fence. Ballgame.

Hiland has good, not great, pitching. But they hit the cover off the ball and are sound defensively. I felt their lack of dominant pitching would keep them from repeating, but it seems eventually their hitting shows up and they have explosive innings. They have a decent shot if that continues. FWIW

I think its Mason's year and they finally break through! The elder Hanley is one of the best ever at Mason, and is the anchor needed for a team to win it all. He's been unbelievable.

Panthers are always a scrappy bunch though, and Moe is no picnic either. But Mason has the talent to do it.
