Moeller Undefeated in GCL This Year

Can Moeller run the table in the GCL South this year? They’ve already swept LaSalle (2 of the 3 games were competitive at 4-2 and 5-3). St. X has been the one to keep Moeller off the pedestal in recent years, but they’ve struggled mightily lately with their one win vs Elder (Elder won 14-1 and 4-1 in the other two) now looking flukish. Elder seems to be playing well right now, but their first matchup with Moeller didn’t go well.

Moeller has two games remaining against both Elder (this week) and St. X (the following week). Can anybody stop Big Moe?

A Mark Thompson coached team always has a shot. Moeller is clearly better than Elder on paper, but Elder just brings a fundamental toughness many other teams lack.

St. Xavier has more talent than Elder and possibly as much as anybody in the area not named Moeller. The problem is the Bombers haven’t been any good lately.

Put me down as predicting an 8-1 GCL finish for Moeller. Either Elder grinds one out or St. Xavier remembers they’re an extremely talented bunch themselves and takes one.

They have as good a chance as any other year. One of the best teams that money can buy...😉

Does Jordan Marshall, star RB, still play baseball?

Disagree that X has more talent than Elder this year. Elder has a catcher that will be playing baseball in the SEC next year at Alabama. They have 3 total seniors that are 3 year varsity starters. The bats started off a little shaky, but they are 12-3 right now and playing better. They are not better than Moeller this year, but I think they could win one of the remaining 2 against Moeller.

Give Elder a chance to make adjustments and they’ll make adjustments. Nice win for the Panthers! Not sure that they have enough opportunities left to catch Moeller in the standings, but a nice win nonetheless!

Elder will have to win out in GCL beat Moeller and then take 2 from Lasalle next week. Moeller would then have to lose 1 of 2 against X next week. Moeller pretty much has it wrapped up, but it was a good win anyway for Elder.

And another "recruiting" dig at Moeller. Can't help themselves
Are you particularly sensitive about that? Because I can assure you that comment had nothing whatsoever to do with either Moeller or recruiting.

Elder for years plays hard, plays fundamental baseball, and while they clearly care about winning, they go about things the right way, working to beat you on the scoreboard but not attempting to show anybody up or fill your ears with mindless chatter from the dugout.

I was paying a compliment. Sorry you’re on high alert looking for digs where none exist.

Yes, I'm particularly sensitive about this from the Elder blowhards that constantly say that Moeller cheats, especially when Moe beats them or has success. I'm also particularly sensitive to the same types that constantly remind us how Elder is holier than thou and does everything the "right way", whatever that means.

I find it funny how their script has changed from "we're the best" to "we do things the right way" when they haven't won anything recently and realize their talent is getting worse.

Massive inferiority complex with the Elder regulars here.

Well said. I have always respected Elder's approach to the game. Hard-nosed and play the game the right way. Kudos to them for a big win against a solid Moeller squad.

There are others (@Omar ) that will say you are saying this to downgrade their talent and calling them "no talent try-hards".

Of course Elder plays that way, it's how their kids are built. Has always been that way.

Absolutely not trying to take anything away from Elder. I respect their program. No ill meaning to my post.

Moeller is good. There is no doubt about that.

I wouldn't want to play ANY GCL south school in the post-season tournament.

I didn’t attend Elder and I don’t nor have I ever had any affiliation with Elder. I just respect how Coach Thompson and his coaches and players do things. That’s it.

Sorry if that offends you.

The way each of those teams is playing, it seems far more likely that Elder could take care of business than their ability to count on Moeller losing next week. Not sure what’s going on with St Xavier, but they’ve really been struggling. Elder can only control what they can control though. Even if they don’t get a share of the league that would be some nice momentum heading into the tourney.
