Massillon (8-0) vs Warren Harding (4-4)

The sandwich king is vindictive. Misses his Harding colors and mascot . Holds back on booster contributions until his demands are met.

As for the game, Harding is weak in the trenches and will not be close in this match up. Potential mercy rule game.

Massillon's timing was never great in their state title runs was it? Both the 82 and 80 (even better) Moeller teams were declared National Champs, and I believe the 15-0 St. X team finished #5 in 05. Then they enter D2 just as Hoban and LaSalle took off. Where public schools had previously won 8 of the last 10 championships, and only 1 of the last 9 since. Is what it is keep chopping wood.
This is very true. You can make an analogy the Cleveland Indians ran into the Yankees who won 4 world series in the 1950's when the Indians were winning 100 games a year and finishing second. Losing to those above teams Moeller, St Ignatius Hoban LaSalle no one else beat those teams either in there heyday. Massillon has consistently year in an year out been one of the best teams in the state. They may win it this year. However, being a Hoban grad I can't root for them. But if they play and beat Hoban I will tip my cap and congratulate them. I am not one of these
fans that is a poor sport and makes excuses for when his team loses. You win you lose. That's life.

You can find the 88 Massillon Warren game on youtube and a plethora of WGH vs WWR stuff there too. Very interesting.
That 88 game was officiated by Warren Harding football players parents. Hell I got called for holding running an out route. We had one stretch were they called like 6 penalties in a row, it was like 2 down and 58.😂😂😂😂Complete homer job. That’s why Owens stopped playing Warren. We pummeled them in 89, 54-2 and the series ended for awhile.

Anyone remember the 1971 game? It is my first Massillon/Harding game memory.
Harding scored after being down 7-0 and went for two point conversion for the win...and the AP State Title.

Yes, still remember it to this day. I think WGH ran a double reverse, or end around to Doug Stubbs for the winning 2 point conversion. What an atmosphere that night! Place was packed!

WH first touchdown in the 2002 state semi has to be top 10 for worst officiating call in Massillon playoff history. He was WAY short of the goal line and it wasn’t even close.

It takes a village to raise a child! One of the main reason’s for Coach Moore’s success is the way that your community encourages your youth off the field. His resume included stops in the MAC & GCL, so he really embraces everything that Massillon stands for.

Yesterday, I noticed that some Tiger fans were upset about a few mistakes on the field while others were like, “YOU JUST WHITEWASHED FITCH!” That reminded me of when I saw Coach Moore here in Warren last year and I asked him, “How does it feel to pass Paul Brown in wins?” His exact words were, “It doesn’t matter because we haven’t gotten it done.” When you strive for perfection, you don’t settle for less.

Whenever you finally get your playoff championship, it won’t be, “We’ll you’re in Division II” or “It’s about time!” It’ll just be, “Job well done!” Hopefully, my Raiders will do their best to exceed your Tigers next Friday and allow that experience to propel them closer to where they need to be.
Worm, Always praying for you and wish you and the Raiders the best brother!

Question for Worm and Massillon guys. How come Warren Western Reserve never played the tigers or joined the the AAC. They were great and won state and eventually became much better than harding.

I don’t know the answer to that. Maybe the AAC didn’t really want to add another power to the lineup?
I don’t recall WWR playing McKinley either.

So did McKinley a year after closing Lincoln and Lehman, correct? Difference is they kept the names McKinley and Bulldogs, and basically erased the other 2. Ditto Timken. At least WWR got to keep Raiders. Those are tough decisions, and hard on old school fans. Can't make everyone happy.
Correction: Canton City Schools turned Lehman into a Junior High (did not close) and Lincoln High was indeed closed. These Board actions took place in 1976. McKinley's first State Title in the Playoff Era took place 5 years later, in 1981.
