Interestingly, the run wouldn't have counted if they simply would have gotten him out at 1st base at any time during that play...
 
 
There was a force out at first base, all the first baseman needed to do was step on first, even if the runner already crossed. The force out negates the run. This will be talked about for years.

I'm not sure the play will be talked about for years. Most haven't even talked about it for days. It's a hilarious play but most outside the sport even know it happened.
