Covington cancels game in 2022

Thank you for not guessing “Big Game Bob” Stoops.
Nah, he has ties to a Catholic HS from the same diocese. Al Bundy's portrayer has ties to the HS across town from Stoops'. Incidentally, St. John isn't officially under the umbrella of the Diocese of Youngstown, but it operates with the diocese's blessing.

You had me going on the first sentence; because I always thought the Heralds were their own deal. Now it makes sense.

Many moons ago, St. John (later known as Ss. John and Paul) was part of the Diocese of Youngstown. No idea if the school went off on its own to avoid being closed by the diocese or what, let alone when it happened, but I remember that the school seemed like it was always on the verge of being closed by the DoY. DoY is comprised of: Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning, Columbiana, Portage, and Stark County.

I feel sorry for the school that gave you 7 letters, that you didn’t notice the date of the original post. Lol. Then act like you’ve done nothing wrong and insult a person for making a comment about your mistake.
Thanks for todays humor.
Maybe you've never gotten a letter, they dont "give" them to ya....for fun, tell me what i did wrong, and when i insulted someone?

I've never, ever understood kids who played or didn't play because of the coach. If that's the main reason to get you out there, it's weak. You either play for yourself, your teammates or the community, or all.

Covington was riddled for years with terrible coaches with long tenure. I agree with you in premise, but over time with no changes it demoralizes the rest.

I'll put this back on the kids, I mean if you have a good leader the rest will follow. You have star players who quit, and the rest will follow. And maybe that's the case, Lord knows kids transfer way too easy these days, so maybe the "good" players see what's up and transfer before high school and you're left with what's left.

Thats the problem with covington, unless the whole team quit (which i doubt) whats wrong with fielding the team you have, win or lose?

Think the key word is "play" in those instances. I think many feel they won't get to play regardless of their ability or attitude. Think "daddy ball" in the instance where the coach's kid could be awful but plays before the talented kid. Not the "daddy ball" where coach is harder on his own kid than others. Some kids realize that there are many other things they can do elsewhere if they do not "play" much at any level.

You must have always had good coaches. At my high school many kids would not play for our coaches, and it was well within reason. My kids were going to transfer ( my idea) to other schools with good coaching when suddenly the school they attended began hiring good coaches, and it was not worth transferring any longer.

When a basketball coach allows a kid to shoot a granny freethrow backwards over their head because of a frustrating blowout that is ridiculous. Kids want to learn the game as much as play it. Your more cerebral athletes will not suffer fools to lead them.

How do you feel about college athletes picking a school because of the coach? Weak?
