Club Team Playing OHSAA Teams In Ohio Tournament

I could definitely see Club Teams in Ohio as athletes leave their high school programs. Doesn"t this go on in other sports?

Since this is a club team, does this count as one of Hilands and Rynoldsburgs regular season games or a scrimmage?

It was a club team in name only really.... Nevada canceled winter sports, so this is how they're able to play.

And Doc, this isn't football... doesn't really matter if a game "counts" but yes I'm pretty sure they "count" :)

7.1.3) Definition of a School Contest – For purposes of these regulations, the OHSAA considers a school (athletic) contest as any type of activity, which takes place during the school season, involving participants from one school against participants from either another school or from a non-school program or team during the school season, and these contests shall count in the season limitations. Examples of school contests are games, meets, matches, previews, scrimmages, jamborees, Foundation Games or any other type of competition. A practice involving two or more school squads is also an athletic contest unless those squads share the same board-approved coach. A game, meet or match must follow the rules as written in the game rules adopted by the Board of Directors. Athletic contests may be scheduled and conducted only during the time periods as specified in the individual sport regulations.

In the OHSAA, you are allowed to play club teams during the season. Any players that want to participate on their school's team are not allowed to play on a club team until their school season is complete. If they participate on a club team during the season, they are no longer eligible for their school team. Club teams are not widely scheduled yet but it seems to be growing in Ohio.

A lot of states have a clause that says... a team must be a member of a state recognized athletic association...the future could see club teams develop, with many schools having issues with keeping kids in a program, 2 qtr JV games or cancelled games. Lots of financial issues from the pandemic have not helped...

Fwiw, they got the game cleared with all necessary organizations before the team traveled out here and played..... so it was all legit/on the up and up.
