All-Time Lists Update

Javman's attachment is where I got my information. In the first article it indicates King "authored" an alltime Ohio record (column 2, paragraph 6).
Great minds think alike.

I actually have a hard copy of that issue buried in my personal HS files.

Javman - is there any local library that has OTFN on microfiche or digitized or whatever the kids are calling it these days? It looks like it started in 1965. Thanks.

That's an EXCELLENT question and request. NONE that I'm aware of. That publication is now several decades in the past. The only thing I can think of is someone who knew those who published it. Contacting those families might prove fruitful.

In the Cincinnati area, the archives of Don Connoly (spelling?) would be of prime interest. He had his own newsletter back in the 1970s, and he produced untold numbers of meet results every year in both track & XC. I can only pray he has plans to pass those along or will them to a public institution, which is one of the things I plan to do with my data when the day comes.

Update on top-50 lists:

Boys Field Events (outdoor only - known thru July 2023)
  • High Jump - 57 athletes @ 6' 11" or better, 40 @ 7' 0" or better
  • Pole Vault - 55 athletes @ 16' or better
  • Long Jump - 50 athletes @ 23' 11" or better with recognized legal jumps (either with wind-legal gauge reading or recognized by T&F News as wind-legal due to their reporting network)
  • Triple Jump - due to lack of triple jump opportunities in Ohio over the decades, the list is thin with wind-legal marks. I'm working towards a way to produce a decent listing - probably down to the 45 foot level.
  • Shot Put - 50 athletes @ 63' 0 1/2" or better, 147 athletes @ 60' or better
  • Discus Throw - 50 athletes @ 189' 6" or better, 12 @ 200' or better
  • Hammer Throw - 50 athletes @ 176' 6" or better, 20 @ 200' or better
  • Javelin Throw - 25 athletes @ 140' 0" or better, 10 @ 164' (50m) or better. This is another event that needs A LOT MORE boys attempting it. Note: This list includes post-1986 javelins. I have separate lists under development for the pre-1986 metal javelins, and before those, wooden-shaft/metal-tip era that existed prior to the 1950s. OHSAA eliminated the javelin from their program subsequent to the 1937 school year.
My lists actually go deeper than what I've listed. Trying to go min. 100 deep, but those are longer-term projects.

Still on target for late August release of the boys' top-50 lists. Tightening up the 8/16/32 lists, and working on consistent formatting across each of the events for pertinent information.

Additional work has been going into my research into the entire history of the State meets from 1908 forward (including the pre-State meets of 1905-07). I just bagged the entire set of field event marks for the 1950-59 state meets for each of the two classes this weekend. I'm planning on an initial release of the 1908-1920 meets by the end of this year (I have some more on-site research at certain libraries to do), and then the 1921-1970 period by the end of 2024. I'll continue to add winners' lists per event & classification to the other thread as I complete them.

Do you use any of the newspaper archives on https://directory.advantage-preservation.com/SiteDirectory? Luckily my hometown newspaper had all their archives on there and so do a couple of the others towns in the area. Makes it a lot easier to find old results and times. Although some of them are clearly incorrect/typo'd.

Not as yet, but thank you for that link! I do use newspaper archives however. Unfortunately, there's still a whole lot of data that will never make it on to online repositories and can only be dugout in local libraries, assuming the information still exists. I've already got 5-6 thousand hours put into research & compilations over the last 14 years, and I expect to hit 10k hours by time I'm done, assuming I'm still around and functioning by then. Thank you for that info!

OK, I'm updating all the individual events for both boys & girls through the state meets currently. As it stands now, I think I'll be able to put out whole batch of top 50 (where known) for individual events by the end of August. This compilation is 5 years in the making in its current form, but the genesis of it for me goes back to the late 1980s when I first started paying attention to the subject. I hope that this effort will help coaches out there to either spot mistakes or missing information from my compilations, but also to provide information on athletes that may have been missed on your own lists.

After that, it'll most likely take me a year to get the standard 4x1, 4x2, 4x4, and 4x8 lists together along with individual updates in the 2023-24 season. Hope to have the whole package ready for a yearly update for August releases after the Junior Olympic meets are completed.

I'm also working towards the same end for the indoor events. Top 30 in those.

Thank you for your patience.
Hi Javman83, I haven't been on this site in awhile. Love to s these lists your coming up with. Where would we find these lists? Girls and boys? Thank you
