2024 WOAC Football

Some interesting outcomes tonight for sure. Arcanum keeping it close with West Lib was definitely a shocker. Props to them!

Now for next weeks games:

5 Lehman Catholic @ 4 Ansonia
Game of the week, I’ll take A Town of course. Lot of growth I’m sure from both squads but Lehman could not stop the run in their scrimmage.

5 Indian Lake @ 4 Preble Shawnee
I’ll take PS in this game IL offense isn’t great. Their defense is solid in the 1 game I seen them. I think Shawnee will be a little much for them.

9 TV @ 1 MSML
It’s hoop season in New Madison
While you are correct IL offense isn't that great bur wow...that PS offense was atrocious.
They avg 45 in that league?
How?

I think losing their best player Isaac Blankenship when they were up 7-0 hurt PS very badly last night. I'm not saying they would have won, but that definitely hurt them bad.

Tip of the cap to Tri-Village with an admirable showing against Marion Local. First team to score double digits on the Flyers this season.
1st Team to score a passing touchdown (2) against the Flyers... ML is fundamentally correct, they made mistakes but never let it snowball on them. Speed is deadly with the Flyers, track is their best friend! Good Luck to the Flyers, hope the historic run continues!

Who votes on the All SW district teams? Just curious how Ansonia wins the WOAC and Tri Village finishes 3rd yet TV has 9 players on 1st or 2nd team and Ansonia only has 3.

The media votes on players they have never seen play.............
To be fair, you have to have gotten Conference Honors to get district honors. TV had more All Conference (9) to Ansonia (8) in the WOAC.

I'd argue too that Districts/State voters simply look at stats, where coaches vote in league, and there's usually a lot of emotions involved in that vote. You made me mad week 3? I'm not voting for your players.

Yup it’s just a whole bunch of politics. Could also very well be voter fatigue. No way Kelch doesn’t make the Oline haha it’s whatever.

Agree whole heartidly. Everyone says it's about the kids/players, but it ends up being about the egos of grown adults.
Very much so. Which is really sad, but as you said it’s about the ego of grown men unfortunately. I know a couple kids will be pissed at ole A Town but at the end of the day they don’t give two because they’re playing ball.

But as a grown man myself around other parents and staff it does get rather annoying to see certain guys not get the respect they deserve. Oh well, Go Tigers!

How are the WOAC teams picked? Only reason I ask is bc i know in the CCC there were slotted spots for each of the teams in the standings.
Coaches pick their own kids as they see fit with the slots given in the standings. Once first team was "voted" on then there was an actual vote for Player and Coach of the year but that was it. I didnt feel as good about my all conference awards after this lol.

WOAC is somewhat similar you can nominate a set amount of kids and then the coaches have to vote for your guys. I don’t believe you can vote for your own athletes, but maybe I’m wrong.

The only real vote is for POTY as Coach of the year goes to whoever wins the conference. While that’s the right call in some or even most cases I don’t think it should always be the case.

COY and O/DPOY are nominated (players by their own coach, coach by another coach). As mentioned, the CCC awarded slots to rankings

For example Champions got 10 slots
2nd Place 9 slots
3rd....

In the WOAC, each coach can nominate as many as they see fit. So, Ansonia as the champs can nominate a total of 10 players let's say, but there's nothing stopping 0-10 Dixie from also nominating 10.

I disagree that COY and O/DPOY should automatically go to league champions. IMO, TVS head coach had a strong case for being COY for how well South played given they only had 15-16 players at one time. Just an example

Unless I’m blind I have not seen a hoops thread so figured I’d start the convo here. How will this conference be? I believe they’re going to be rather underwhelming.

PS, TV, and FM at the top is my guess.

Then everyone else. I believe Ansonia will just be fighting to stay out of the cellar. One senior on the roster due to some frustrations with the staff.

What’s everyone thinking?

I agree with what you said about the top. I will also say that there is a basketball thread that has been started for the WOAC.
