2022 St. Ignatius Football

But 1 poster had Ed's and Wadsworth number 1 and 2 in Region 1. There is no way after watching Medina that I would put Wadsworth over Medina. It's the main 4 again. Mentor, Medina, Ignatius, Ed's.
Time will tell but, at most, as currently situated, I would put Ignatius and Mentor 4 and 5. R1 is downright bad after that, otherwise they wouldn't be that high. Honestly, it is likely Eds and everyone else, whatever order someone wants. Medina threw for 600, great....and gave up 43 to a lower division school. There is nothing very good, as of 2 weeks in, after Eds. Things could change, as always, by week 10

IMHO if Avon was in D1R1 this year, they would be right there with Iggy, Mentor, Medina. On any given night those 3 plus Avon would all be toss up games. They already proved that by beating Medina and that's having no game under their belt and it was Medina's second game. And we already saw that TCC hung with Ed's. And Avon year in and year out beats TCC. And yes, right now it looks like Ed's and the other 3. But there is a lot of football to be played. And those other 3 will get better each week as well. So it's only week 3 and the goal is to get to week 11 healthy. If the "other 3" teams can do that, they have a shot a R1.

What I saw was a group of inexperienced young players, deprived of a first game to work out some of the bugs, who were playing their opening in a pro stadium. Filled with a desire to play well for their beloved retiring coach and with all of the pressure that entails, they played with emotion, but, perhaps, tried to give that little extra, which resulted in turnovers and errors. In reality, minus the turnovers, they played remarkably well for the first game. Patience.
I agree. It is a young team that lacks depth and experience.

Over the past 5 years or so, this is exactly the type of game that Ignatius has been losing.

From looking at film of last week's game, it is apparent that Mt. St Joseph has a tall left-handed qb with an excellent arm and vg receivers.

I remember MSJ's QB from last season's game - he was a sophomore then, now a junior. Also, they had a quick WR that caught most of the passes, some for big yardage. The difference maker last year was the Wildcat DLine rush put on a lot of pressure with a number of sacks. The Cats will have to repeat that defensive performance (and eliminate the turnovers).

The sloppy play continues. First possession, punt went negative 1 yard, either tip or shank. Then MSJ punt and Cats mishandled at own 6. Now TD MSJ

14-7 1Q. In 5 quarters so far, story of 2 tales....the team when doesn't commit turnover and when they do

Cats win 21-14 and 2-0. That was a great win. The 14 points were off turnovers in first half. I'm getting more impressed

Cats 21-14 final. Nice win after being down 14-0 in 1st quarter because of turnovers
Still a lot of work to do and improvement to make

Great win! Down 14 and turned it around. Starting to think more and more it’s going to be a special season for Coach Kyle.

Really impressive win, handling the early (self-inflicted) adversity. They didn't dominate either LOS, but they had an edge both offensively and defensively. I like the rotation at RB (22, 24, 25 — though they probably ask too much of 25 given how essential he is at CB) and DL (34 and 95 look like they can grow into belonging to that legacy). I like 33 and 35 a lot. 41 missed some tackles early, but his Q2 sack helped change the game, and he was better down the stretch.

Offensively, 22 finishes his runs really hard (again, earning his right to be included in the same breath as similar Ignatius RBs). I love 9. I like that 14 gets the ball out of his hands/didn't take sacks and also didn't put too many balls up for grabs.

That first punt was a weird, major outlier (not tipped and didn't seem to slip, just shanked) bc all of 4's kick-offs made it to the end zone, his FG attempt had the distance and his other punts were great (the one he got roughed on was a ~60-yarder that went out inside the 10).

If anyone has stats, I'd be interested to see them.

My final thought at this point: this team is good enough to be 7-2 or 6-3 if they don't make mistakes. But they aren't/won't be good enough to beat Hoban, Eds, Moeller and probably Xavier unless they play a clean game.

Euclid just doesn't seem like it wants to play today. 5min. left in qtr 1 Ignatius 16 ( 2td, 1 safety) , Euclid - 0. Euclid minus 30 yds offense.

They are terrible since Rotsky left and took players, as usual. Exactly why didn't bother going today, saw a running clock from a mile away
