Indoor State and Other Indoor Results

I'm looking for the results of Indoor State Meets before 2005 and any central Ohio meets...such as any central district indoor meets or meets at Ohio State. If anyone has anything, I would appreciate it if you could upload it to this thread. I'll post it to Athletic.net so that it is available to anyone who needs it.

There is no repository for results (I wish there was), but the late Craig Whitmore left TrackSuperFan, Jesse Squire, some of his archives which he posted almost 20 years ago. I found them on the Wayback Machine and saved them in PDF form. Whitemore put together the list of winners from the years 1980-2002. I've not come across complete results (of those who placed) of these meets aware except for 1982-1984 that were listed in the old Ohio Track & Field publication that existed from 1965 (I think that's when it started) until the 2000-05 time frame. I've posted links to the individual who uploaded scanned copies from the 1982-84 years here:

Lastly, this meet has been in different forms from before 1980 as I've come across other results that were the "All-Ohio" type HS championships.

The current format of the meet that resides at SPIRE has been in effect since 2005 when it first started at the University of Findlay. All the results since can be found online.

Additionally, there have been many, many HS meets that have taken place at French Field House since the late 1950s when it opened. I've seen many references to Ohio indoor records coming from those meets dating back to that era, although I couldn't verify whether they were or not. In my compilation of all-time outdoor/indoor lists, I've also been trying (mostly successful) to verify the late Mr. Whitmore's own record progression lists, and some of those marks come from OSU HS meets going back to that era. It's possible that a diligent search at the Columbus Public Library newspaper archives would prove fruitful in that respect. I know that's how I've found many of the very early state meet results from the 1908-1930 era, and I have plans to visit there again in a couple years to continue my state meet project.

Javman - any idea where St. X's 10:17.29 DMR from NIN lands on the all-time indoor list? I know it's kind of an off-event for indoors, but I was curious. Your master indoor record list does not have the DMR. Thanks!

Not yet. I plan on attacking the odd relays this summer/fall.

However, from a quick look at Craig Whitmore's data and those years since his passing, it looks like X's mark would be the DMR record for Ohio.

I'm the boys coach at Thomas Worthington and I've been researching the indoor track history of our program lately. The Columbus Dispatch archives have pretty good coverege of the Central District Indoor (also known as the Franklin County Indoor and other names) going back to the 1950s though about 1981. I only saved the stuff that had something to do with Worthington High School, but I'd be willing to share that with anyone that is interested. It's all online through the Columbus Libary. The Dispatch results usually only showed the marks for the winners but often named 2nd and 3rd place finishers. All things considered, they had tremendous coverage of that meet every year.

I found out that prior to building French Field House in 1956, Ohio State would practice in the winter on the west concourse (under the west stands) at Ohio Stadium. The Central District Indoor was actually held there from 1954-1956. Les Eisenhart even somehow convinced Ohio State to let Worthington HS have a few dual meets there, the first one going back to 1951. I couldn't find any reference to indoor high school track meets in central Ohio prior to Worthington's dual with Columbus South in 1951.

I still have big holes in the 1980s and 1990s. But it was interesting to see the results from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Thank you so much for that information. One of my sideline projects is compiling a master list of as many indoor meets (meet/site/date) as possible for the 20th century including major marks made during those meets. I've got meet listings back to 1897, and I'm sure I've only scraped the surface so far. I'll have to follow-up on hooking up with the online archives of the Dispatch. I've been to the main library downtown where I got quite a bit of the outdoor State meet results of the 1908-1929 period, but I've got a lot more to do on that project as well, so I anticipate more trips in the future.
