This is the second time in what, seven years? Give or take? That Dunbar gets kicked out of the tournament for using an ineligible player. Last time they went to court and it cost a lot of people their jobs. Glad to see this one wasn’t that messy.
It was also the first soccer-specific stadium in America, unless you count the 2,400 grandstand built for the Bethlehem steel in 1913 to be a “stadium.” So it’s historic in that sense.
We don’t have to think and guess. We know! Teams can opt out and not play if they don’t want to. Therefor, we know the vast majority of 13-16 seeds want to.
When I say the people “want it” I mean their financial support enables it and continues it, whereas if no one showed up and these games lost money they’d probably go away.
They pay the officials. In the later round games I know they pay a fee to the host site as well, but I’m not sure if they do that in the opening rounds. Costs are certainly minimal at this stage.

I took that to mean you were saying they don’t make money. If the attendance they get is enough to turn a profit, then why is everyone complaining? Enough people want to see 1 v 16 to make a profit, the schools that want to play are playing...
If going to 16 teams is just a “money grab,” doesn’t that mean that there are many fans still paying to go see 1 v 16?
If fans are paying to go see it, is it a “money grab” or “responding to what the market wants?”
I agree money is a huge factor in all of this, but if the first round games...
One time an intern at the office was fielding an angry phone call from a fan of a team that went 8-2 and didn’t make the playoffs (in the 8 team format). The fan said “what are you supposed to tell a team that went 8-2 and didn’t make the playoffs?!” And the intern without missing a beat says...
